Corn Sticks and Pot Likker Soup

Our favorite coffee table book right now is Natalie Chanin's, Alabama Studio Style
Natalie is amazing!

While at our friend's garden last week, we picked some turnip greens.
We couldn't wait to cook them up.

Last night we borrowed Natalie's recipe for Pot Likker Soup and Corn Sticks.
It was delicious.
I can't wait to share with you the other project I am doing from her book.
I'm super excited about it.

Thank you Natalie for inspiring us so.

hugs,
Fritzi Marie

Alabama Afternoons

Last week we went on a little field trip to our friend Butch's garden.

We picked sweat peas and strawberries.

We even came home with garlic.

Walking around his garden took me back in time.
I felt like I was 6 years old again walking around my Grandparents' garden.

We have been enjoying fresh vegetables all weekend.

I hope to one day have a garden just like my friend's.
It will be overflowing with strawberries.

Horray for friends who are amazing examples, fieldtrips, and Alabama afternoons.

Oh Darling, Let's Be Adventurers.

We are now into day 4 of our fifth married year together and we spent our weekend making plans.
Dreaming about our future together.

To celebrate five years, I made Daniel a big chocolate cake.

Daniel took me to Atlanta to visit some of our favorite shops (for pretty presents) and we shared an amazing meal at our new favorite place, Mary Mac's Tea Room

Mary Mac's served me pot likker soup with cornbread for the very first time and it may just be my new favorite food (up there with strawberries).
We are planning on making it later this week so I'll share more about that later.

I'm looking forward to years of adventures with my dear husband.
How lucky we are!

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Bonnie and Clyde

Dear Friends,
I hope you had an amazing weekend filled with family, friends, and Easter eggs.

Daniel and I have been having so much fun celebrating our 5th anniversary and Easter.
Dan gave me this concertina for my anniversary gift.

I am hoping to be able to play duets with my Daniel.
We are planing to premiere my new skills for you by playing "our" favorite song by Social Distortion.
I can't wait.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Preparations For The Hunt

Happy Easter Little Bunnies.
This photo of Bono B. is one of my favorite Easter photo's.
You can see a few of my other favorite photo's from Easters' past here, here, and here
I hope your special day is full of love and magic.
We're planning a mini picnic and egg hunt.
I wish we could talk Bono into hiding the eggs.
That would make the hunt a little bit easier.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. Thank you so very much for all of the Anniversary love.  We are so thankful to have so many amazing friends in our little world.
hugs.

First Love

First Love

A fist of red fire, a flower
Opening in the sun. A kind of peace
Taking over at last, and then the quick release.

Our dear friend Jane of Sweetest Jane... won the National Poetry Month Giveaway.
We have enjoyed all of your entries very much.
We will be featuring some of them next Poetry Thursday.

Kitchen/Dining Room Tour

Dear Friends,
Good Morning and thank you for coming over to see our little kitchen/dining room.

To be honest, it isn't all that special, so I think I'll show you the little details that make us happy.

This is our little telephone table that we picked up at a local auction.
Bono loves to congregate there since we usually keep his toy box stored underneath it.

This paining of Bono B. was a raffle win.
We adore it.

We purchased this Zingy sign at an auction as well.
(Zingy means: strikingly attractive or appealing)
So we thought it would be perfect for Bono's wall since he is so strikingly attractive and appealing.

This is his little spot under his Zingy sign.
He likes to chit chat with his friends while he eats.

My parents gave me this little plant when we moved in.
I can't believe it is still alive.

My favorite number is 11 and Dan's is 22.

Our dining room table and chairs were my Grandmother and Grandfather Holling's.
My Daddy grew up eating at this table and I did too.

We love to collect cheezy magnets when we go on road trips.

Our very first road trip was from Southern California to Seattle, Washington and back.
It was a magical time.
We found this gnome in Northern California and one of our little friends named it Beautiful.
He watches over us.

My favorite thing about our kitchen is our dishes and glasswear.
I'm hoping to have open shelving one day so I can showcase them.
I'll share our collection when we invite you all over to our next home.

Happy Thursday Dearies.
Thank you for stoping by.
I adore you.

hugs,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. Please come by next week (Wednesday) so I can share my art room/guest room with you.

Morning Inspiration

Dear Friends,

I'm sorry I didn't have you over for a kitchen/dining room tour today.
My allergies got the best of me and I looked and felt a mess.
So, here's the deal...please stop by tomorrow morning for a tea party with me and Bono B.  in our little kitchen.
Also, tomorrow is the deadline for the National Poetry Month Giveaway
Lindsey, Bono Baby, and I will choose the winner tomorrow night and feature your entries.
We can't wait to see who wins the Amazon gift card, Starbucks gift card, Amanda Atkins print, 2 signed poetry chapbooks and something pretty.
This is HUGE friends..."don't put off being creative."

love love,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. I am in love with this print
I'm thinking we may need it for our next bathroom.
I know that sounds silly but isn't it the perfect place to be reminded to be creative everyday?

Teapots and Daisies

Daniel and I are celebrating our 5th Wedding Anniversary this week.
To celebrate, we have been giving one another little surprises.
Daniel is way better at it than I am.
He surprised me with this sweet little teapot that I've been wanting.

Bono and I have been having tea parties in the morning time.

My dear friend Amanda sent me a daisy kit (one of my favorite flowers) and I have been having so much fun thinking of ways to decorate with them.
I've decided that they are my anniversary flowers and I want to put them everywhere.

I love how simple things like daisies from a dear friend and a teapot from my Daniel can make everyday so happy.
I've been trying to think of ways to surprise my Daniel.
He has been hinting about a chocolate cake.

Here's to surprises and morning tea parties.

hugs,
Fritzi Marie

Hand in Hand

Our plans for Friday night were shot down because of the crazy storms.
But, the weather was amazing on Saturday and we went to 11th Annual OLD 280 Boogie

We've decided that this event ranks in the top five things we have done while living in Alabama.

This Music & Arts Festival in Waverly, Alabama, was for us a day full of great music and pretty scenery.

Dan declared that it had the best festival food he has ever had.

I had the most amazing piece of corn on the cob (well, to be honest, I had two).

We saw our favorite Alabama band, Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil play.

We also got to chit chat with them a bit too.
Really cool guys (and girl) who play really cool music.
This is my favorite song by them.

Any festival where Dan can eat a bacon goat cheese brownie and I can boogie is a good one.
It was magical.

Can't wait to hear what you did.
Please share.

hugs,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. We also came home with some local honey and pickles.
We want to share these pickles with you because they are the most amazing pickles, Wickles Pickles we have ever had.
NO KIDDING!

Weekend Daydreaming

Happy Weekend Dear Friends!

We have a busy weekend in store.
All fun things so I am looking forward to it.
My UPS man dropped this book off the other day and I have been having so much fun looking through it.
Holly Becker of Decor8 & Joanna Copestick wrote it.
I will tell you this, I like it almost as much as my Domino: Book for Decorating
I plan on spending my Sunday afternoon lookie lou'ing through it's pretty pages and daydreaming about how I am going to decorate our new place.

Have fun dearies.

hugs,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. I can't wait to get Grace Bonney's new Design Sponge book.

Watching and Eastbound Freight Train from My Northerly Window

It's so late now the street signals
have turned to blinking.  There isn't
time for wordy sentences.  If leaves were
in the trees, they might have something

to say.  I would surely listen.
The occasional car on I-90 slips past
this dying city like a yawn.  All I have
is this window and the static of night.
Three engines and thirty-two
boxcars so far.  The average
is one hundred.  Will they stop
in Missoula or continue
on to Chicago?  A moving mile
of metal drives me.  I feel the clank
of wheel and track, the screaming
steel.  It is more hopeful at this 3 AM
than waking at dawn.
