A Little Secret and A Giveaway

It is windy and rainy here today.
Bono Baby and I are cuddled up in the house working on shop business.
We've been re-watching Twin Peaks and this scene makes me so so so so happy.
I'm gifting myself some sparkle water in one of my favorite tea cups.
Bono Baby is gifting himself a mid afternoon nap.

A little while back I gifted myself The Black Apple's Paper Doll Primer book.
It is one of my favorite little presents to myself this year.
So perfect for gift giving.
So, I want to give you one.
To enter, make sure you are a follower, and leave a comment telling me what your favorite daily gift to yourself is.
Tell your friends about the giveaway on facebook or your blog and you'll get a second entry.
Let me know if you do, of course.

Isn't Emily Martin the cutest?

Happy Tuesday Dearies.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. Bono Baby will pick a winner next Monday (December 6th) night.

Close-ups, Winners, and A Birthday Wish

Daniel and Bono Baby put all of your names in their hat and the winner of the Amanda Atkins giveaway is Jennifer of Intrastructure

But, we have big exciting news around here.
Dear Amanda was so impressed with all of your sweet comments that she decided to give away two more of her beautiful prints.
Isn't she the sweetest!

So, Lindsey Dear you are a winner.

Claire of Mamushka Marie, you won too.
How fabulous.
I am so happy for all three of you.
Now, the bigger and more important news is that tomorrow is Amanda's birthday.
Happy Happy Birthday Dear Amanda.
Thank you for making our world a prettier place.
We adore you.

Random note:  While editing these photo's, I realized how much my glasses look like my Daddy's from the late sixties (I think).
My Daddy had so many of these photo's around the house (I think he sent them out with resumes).
I can remember playing pretend teacher with those spectacles.
I always felt like it was business time when I wore them.
I think that is why I like to wear them during "business" time now.
Announcing giveaway winners is business time, yes?

Here's to birthday wishes come true, random memories, and friendship.

Happy Weekend Dearies

Dear Friends,

I just wanted to take a quick minute of your time to wish you the loveliest of weekends.
I hope your Thanksgiving festivities were filled with love and good times.
We ended up staying home with the Bono Baby.
We made our favorite Thanksgiving side dishes and watched The Godfather trilogy.
It was perfect.
I also wanted to remind you that the Amanda Atkins giveaway ends on Monday night.
Also, she just added Odette the Ornithologist to her shop.
Isn't she amazing!

You can enter here.

Happy Weekend Friends

love love,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. I can't wait for Monday night to roll around.
We are going to get our very first Christmas tree.

Poetry Thursday

Alabama Kitty

The Girl at Pike Place Market, Seattle

I thought that if I could ask her
the price of artichokes
it would be sealed: she would want
to know everything about me.
It wasn't just black dreadlocks
or olive skin that made me want
to stare every time I passed her
produce stand.  When she reached
for that cabbage, exposing tender black
hair, I knew I could love her.
Three years she peddled
vegetables amidst belt booths,
bunches of flowers, flying fish, and every time
I walked that arcade, she
was what truly bloomed.

Spectacles, Tall Ice Cream Cones, and The Ickies

Our Bono Baby has had the ickies all week.
So he has been taking it easy and today he seems to be feeling better.
Daniel took us to Five Guys for some treats
(Bono and I have concluded that In-N-Out  makes the best grilled cheese).
But we were thankful just the same.
Bono also went to his favorite puppy store to pick out a new toy.
He carried it to the cash register and everything.
That means things are looking up!

He wasn't too happy with us when we came home from our trip to Georgia (it's only 20 minutes away) with new glasses.
This is Daniel's first pair of glasses.
I think he looks HOT!
Hello, Dr. Morris, will you edit my blog please?

We also went to the dentist and he was the cutest.
He told us about Mrs. Story's Dairy Bar.
(Our new favorite treat shop)
When he was little he would go to Mrs. Story's to pay 25 cents for a huge ice cream cone.
Daniel paid $1.69 for mine yesterday.
My dentist prescribed it and it was so worth it.

We are thankful for insurance this week.
We have been so worried about the Bono Baby and we are super happy that he is on the mend.

Happy Thanksgiving Dear Friends.
I hope you have a very special day filled with friends and family.
We will be thinking of you all.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Fireflies, a Sneak Peak, and a Giveaway

Dearest Friends,

Here is a little sneakie peak of  my art/guest room/office.
My favorite Amanda Atkins print is front and center.

My dear friend Amanda and I met when I bought this print

for my Daniel.
It is hanging in our living room.
It is titled, The Demise of the First Poet I Ever Fell Prey To.

Amanda is one of the sweetest, most talented ladies I know.
I feel so lucky and thankful to have her in my world.
I have been collecting little Amanda doodles and I am planning on framing them.
Amanda Dear has graciously offered to host a giveaway for you, my dear friends.

If I could enter I would get this Francesca among Fireflies paper doll print.
She reminds me of the romantic getaway weekends Daniel and I had in New Orleans.

So, here's the deal, be a Fritzi Marie follower and visit Amanda Atkins in a Canary Forest then come back here and let me know which print you love the most.
(It's hard to choose just one)
For a second entry, tell your friends about it via your blog or facebook.
Remember to come back and let me know.
And finally for a third entry visit Amanda's blog and let her know how amazing she is.
We will pick the lucky winner next Monday November 29th.

Thank you Dear Amanda.
I adore you.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Sunday Afternoon Adventure

I gave my talk on gratitude.
I think it went well.
I realized afterwards that I forgot to wear my belt with my pretty dress.

Daniel said I did a good job.
He is so nice and good to me.
I am so "grateful" to have him in my world.

Daniel has the week off and we have big plans to do very little.
Doesn't that sound magical?

Dear World,

Thank you for bringing people into my life.
Thank you for giving me trials to grow from.
Thank you for sending love to me.
Thank you for every little blessing.
Thank you for my family and friends.
Thank you for helping me grow and become a better person.
Thank you.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Gratitude, Wishes, and Mint Tea

Happy Weekend Dearies

I hope you have special plans for your pre-Thanksgiving weekend.
Dan and I are planning on napping and writing up our Dear Santa Wish Lists.
So far I have asked for a poem and a mix CD of "our" songs.
So much fun!
I am giving a talk in church tomorrow on gratitude.
I'll be up late tonight, drinking mint tea, writing my talk.
What do you have to say about gratitude?
I think I could go on and on.
What a great topic.

Wish me luck.

hugs,
Fritzi Marie

Dance That Funk Off!

Dear Friends,

I've been in a funk today.
I went to get my bangs trimmed and found a new hair stylist.
Then I came home to this empty house and hello FUNK.
Bono Baby and I grumped about a little and then we went back to bed.
That's right, today was one of those days.
When I woke up, I had to give myself a pep talk and get to gettin'.
My friend Michelle of Miss Mix Tape recently asked me to be part of her very special series, Love You More.  She featured my answers about self confidence and beauty last night.
So, I took myself over to her blog to remind myself and check myself.
I hurried and made myself pretty again, took Bono Baby on a walk and when Daniel came home from work he took me out to dinner and we went to pick out some bubble bath.

It was magical.
Tomorrow dancing it the living room will resume.

Go check out Michelle's blog and my feature.
Maybe you too will find some ideas on how to get out of a funk in a quick hurry.
By the way Michelle has an amazing line of vegan bath and beauty products called Funk Off.
How fitting!

love love,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. I want you all to know that I think you are AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL.
I feel so lucky to have you in my world.

Waking at the Top of Malad Pass, ID

That moment when consciousness floods back
I remember when the nods became too much
and now I'm here.  It's 4 PM early April.
The trees show spring.  The sun
not quite ready to call it a day,
and though I still have three hours
to go, I will sit at this rest stop and watch

a squirrel as she runs to that pine with a nut
and feel the air which has taken all day to feel
the way it feels now, refreshing like
unworn silk.  A few cumuli drift
south suggesting that I follow
and drive into the half night
when lights begin to glow yet the horizon
has not quite gone out.  And in Salt Lake
the grass is as green as it will be all summer.

Wait Up For Me

My parents are leaving today after two weeks of fun.
We are taking them to Atlanta so they can fly far far away from me, back to Southern California.
Oh, how I wish I could just jump in their suitcase and go home to the bedroom of my youth.
I love my life here with my Daniel but I will always want to go home too.
I guess my home is here now.
That is what my Auntie Alma told me.
Home is where your heart is, where my Daniel is, where the job is.
I never would have imagined that my home would be in Alabama.
But I will always miss my other home too.

Do you still wish you could go home?
Am I just a big baby?
Are you a big baby too?

Happy Wednesday Dear Friends

Flea Market Finds

Last week my Mommy and I were busy treasure hunting.
We came home with a car full of goodies.
These bowling trophies are one of my favorite things to find.
I love that they are hand signed.
I'm thinking of making them into something very special.

I found two huge boxes of vintage children and ladies dress patterns.
I can't wait to see what I can make with them.

We also found a number of vintage dresses.
They are being washed and ironed today.
The beautiful Ashley of StarSparrow will be modeling them properly for you later this week.

I love swans, but I only keep the black one's.
The rest need to be sent out into the world, so says Fritzi.

I fell in love with this album cover.
We also found some Disney records for our favorite Disney fan.

I thought it was fitting that we found this plate while out shopping with my Mommy.
She taught me everything I know about treasure hunting.

These children's books just melt my heart.
I am keeping Harry by the Sea.
Bono Baby likes it.

Vintage rub on decals for the shop.

And finally a complete vintage Girl Scout uniform.
Oh, how cute Miss Ann S. Thomas must have been in this sweet little uniform.

Friends,
I do love treasure hunting.
I love to meet the people who are selling their treasures.
I love to hear about who they came from.
I like to imagine who they were and what they loved.
It makes me so happy.

Make A Wish!

Graditute, Thanksgiving, and Pumpkin Pie

We spent our weekend celebrating Thanksgiving.
We had our big meal early this year.

Since my parents came to visit, we figured we would celebrate early.
It was the perfect weekend full of celebration.

I am so thankful to have had this special time with my Mommy and Dad CJ.

I am sad about missing my California and Washington families festivities but I've had my fill of Thanksgiving goodies.
Our fridge is full of leftovers and we have big plans to spend Thanksgiving day at the movie theater.

I hope your weekend was magical.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. I found some serious treasure this weekend.
I can't wait to show you.

Twirl The Weekend In

The other day I was feeling old and frumpy.
I wrote a friend about it and this was his suggestion:
Go outside and spin circles till you're dizzy.
Well, dear friends, I just went outside and did it and I feel a whole lot better.
You should try it this weekend.

Happy Weekend Wishes Dear Friends

love love,
Fritzi Marie

FYI:  This photo is from a while back.  I was spinning circles in front of my home town's historical museum which was the swimming pool when I was a little girl.
I remember feeling so special when my Mommy would take me there to go swimming.

Also, what do you do when you are feeling old and frumpy?

Luck Be A Lady Tonight

Tony, Steven, and Dad Morris

Dearest Friends,
I was looking through photo's this afternoon and this one of my Father-in-Law and buddies jumped out at me.
Does it say Happy Veteran's Day to you?
It does to me.
I am also super excited about today because it is November 11.
That's right 11/11.
My lucky lucky number.
So lucky that Daniel even came home with news that one of his poems was accepted.
Lucky indeed.
So, dear friends, when the clock reads 11:11 tonight, stop what you are doing and make your wish.
There is luck in the air tonight.

hugs,
Fritzi Marie

Fort Casey, With Guns
After Richard Hugo's Fort Casey, Without Guns

Where bits of tide are left behind
a heron steps through.

A solitary mule deer flips its tail and eats
December grass still shorn
regimental short in the midst
of still white barracks.

The two big guns
here now were brothers
of the ones that watched the waves for
fifty years.  None of them ever fired
an angry shot on the sround.

Over fifty years vacant.  The walls of the fort
are still turning grayer.  Doors are now
either welded open or shut
so no one can hear them slam
like heart attacks.  But all
are painted as black as the rooms they guard.
Most of this fort is sealed to reduce
the fun, if roaming concrete cavities
left to rot is a type of fun.  Bang
on the hard painted steel and hear the echo
of emptiness, uselessness.  The challenge
is to get as far back from daylight as you can,
to forget that you're only a person

Dance Like No One's Watching

You never know what you may happen upon when you take an adventure alone.

My Daniel sent this to me a few minutes ago.
I'm being a big grump and decided to cuddle up in bed at an early nighttime hour.
Daniel is busy grading papers and he took a time out to send me this special Andrea Dorfman/Tonya Davis film.
It makes me so happy.
Do you know what else makes me happy?
YOU.
You, my dear friends, made my celebration so special.
Thank you for your comments, texts, and messages.
They meant the world to me.
I still don't think the news has set in yet.
I adore each and every one of you.
You make my little world a truly happy place.
Even when I am alone.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Good News Calls For Celebrating, Yes?

One year ago I shared this news with you.
Well, yesterday I went to the doctor and received some very happy news.
Today is a day to celebrate.
I have been on medication for Pseudotumor Cerebri for 12 years and now I am off of it.
It looks like the condition may have disappeared.
Keep your fingers crossed.
We are over the moon happy.
This is a whole new beginning for me.

This Elf Is Getting Busy

Dan and I have decided to go all out for one another this Christmas.
We weren't able to truly exchange presents for the past couple of years.
Grad school took precedence.
So, this year is the year.
I am getting excited!
Dear Sam from Post Grad Hair Cut recently put these write pencil cases in her shop.
I think Santa should sneak one into Daniel's stocking.

Daniel and Dad CJ went to the Auburn Homecoming football game.
My Mommy sent them as an early Christmas gift.
They were also gifted some Auburn wear.
People are crazy about football here.
I've never seen anything like it.

Here's to working our elf-ish magic to make this season spectacular.

Delicious Autumn

It is official, Autumn is here.
I wore my new jacket for the first time last night.
My teeth chitter chattered when we took Bono Baby out for his midnight walk.

I have all my Fall pretties out.
My parents are visiting and I am so happy that they arrived in time to see the beautiful leaves in our back yard.

My sweet Thanksgiving harvest gnome is watching over the festivities.

Daniel and Dad CJ are getting excited about going to their first Auburn football game this weekend.

My Mommy and I are enjoying sweet moments at my kitchen table, sipping mint tea.

Happy Weekend Dear Friends.
Make it magical.

love love,
Fritzi
