When Churchyards Yawn

We spent our Halloween visiting the churches and graveyards of Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains.

We had the most fun on our camping trip.

I'll share all of the pretty details with you soon.

I am busy washing everything but I wanted to check in and WISH you a Happy Halloween.

Oh, and I had to let you all know that Bono Baby had the best first camping trip ever.

The Moon Laughs And Whispers

The trick-or-treaters are doing their thing a bit early this year.
We spent the evening handing out candy to the little gang of children in our neighborhood.
One of the parents filled up his trailer with hay bales and rode the kids around.
It was too cute.
We splurged and gave out regular sized candy bars this year.
I think they were a hit.
We haven't had this many trick-or-treaters in years.

Dan and Will have been busy putting the finishing touches on the Fall 2010 issue of Town Creek Poetry
They picked one of my photo's for the cover.
I feel so special.

Happy Halloween Weekend, Dear Friends

Alabama Kat

E. H. Hitch Farm House, Maryville, TN

It all continues to live.  Just slower.
The new oak leaves mingle with old
each autumn and the breeze keeps the peace.
One white siding, now grays
like an overcast afternoon.  The writing spider
in the cinder-block milk house
professes a guy named "M" will die.
It doesn't expect an eviction
anytime soon.  And the lightening bugs
at dusk, floating above the yard,
like things on mobiles, waste
their show on the empty porch
that stares out beyond the barn and silo,
which now sprouts a hackberry tree,
and the Smoky Mountains stare back.

Flea Market Finds

This week treasures include these sweet baby shoes.
They are going in our hope chest.
My Mommy suggested that we hang them over our bed.
I guess that is what my Daddy did before I came along.

You all know that I love a good collar.
This dress will be perfect for the Alabama summertime.

This frame may not look like much with this hummingbird print but it will be fabulous very soon.
The fleur de lis brass hook is for Bono Baby's leash.

I had to have this pitcher even though I have one too many glass pitchers already.
But the mushrooms and polka dots were shouting my name.
This mug is for Dad Morris.  He is the World's Greatest Father-In-Law to me.

My last little piece of treasure is for my sister Annie.
One of my fondest memories with Annie is watching Shag over and over.
Oh, how I hope and wish we can go to Myrtle Beach together someday.

Fritzi

Oh The Places We Have Been

(Washington Fall, 2009)
With the one year anniversary of our shop upon us, I have taken to reflecting about our past year.
We have gone through so many things and seen so much.
I first opened our shop as a way to better the depression I was going through.
It gave me purpose.
It gave me something important to do every Friday (estate sale shopping with my Father-in-Law, Daniel, and Bono Baby).
It gave me the opportunity to do my very favorite thing, make care packages and send them out into the world.
It made and makes me happy.
I think all this change,  progression, and happiness is cause for a celebratory giveaway.

(Washington Fall, 2009)
We miss Washington so very much but we are excited about this new adventure we are on.
So, share with us in the celebrating and comment with your favorite quote or something sweet and motivational.
The winner will be picked out of a hat (by Bono Baby of course) next Monday, November 1st.
Oh, and the winner will get a care package filled with Fall Goodness.

love and hugs,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. The shop will be filled with new treasure in November.
So exciting!

Fall Goodness Celebration

Dearest  Friends,

I have been so overwhelmed with love from you, my friends.
My mailbox has been full but my heart is more full.
I am so thankful to have you all in my world.
You make my day, everyday.
I wanted to do a little something.
If you have had your eye on anything in our shop, everything is 20% off until October 31st.
Really, I just want to thank you for being you.

I adore you,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. Tomorrow is our shop's one year anniversary.

"You Gotta Move"

Dear Friends,

How was your weekend?
We spent our weekend with friends.
Don't you think that is the very best way to spend a weekend?
We watched a snippet of our very first Auburn game, we scooped out pumpkin goo and carved fancy cats into pumpkins, we ate Mexican food (hooray for guacamole) and we were invited to a lovely Sunday dinner with all the trimmings.
We also started getting our camping gear ready for the big outing to the Smokies.
Bono Baby played in the tent while it was airing out.
I think he is looking forward to camping out for the very first time.

I've been thinking a lot about hostess gifts lately.
What do you usually do for a hostess gift?
I've been having so much fun making fall themed gifts.
My favorite find is a Mexican pumpkin scented candle.

I hope your Monday is full of fall goodness.
Is anyone else craving a hand full of candy corn?

love love,
Fritzi Marie

p.s. We are trading in our Washington license's for Alabama one's today.
I'm a little bit sad about that.

Come Take A Ride With Us

We took a little drive for our Friday afternoon date and we thought you may like to come along with us.
First, go listen to this so you have some roadtrippin' music.
We need to stop at Zoe's Ice Cream Delight for happy hour before we get on the road.
We need treats.
Zoe's is a hop skip and a jump from our little cottage and they make fried green tomatoes.

Now, we get to look at the menu and wish we could have one of everything.

Then we get on the road and get mooned by a pumpkin butted farmer.

We'll wave at the cows, the horses, the donkey's, and the llama's.

We'll tell each other what we think it must have been like to live in this place during it's glory days.
Daniel will tell us that he wishes there was someone there to sell him some boiled peanuts.

Then we'll talk about the beautiful weather and put the windows down.

And finally we will get to our destination.
What a beautiful place Alabama is.

Happy Weekend Dear Friends.

Thank you for joining us on our Friday afternoon adventure.
We adore you,

Fritzi Marie and Daniel

Here Kitty Kitty

The amazing Ashley G. recently added this print, Masked Kitty, to her shop.
I am in love with it.
I can't wait to find a place to put it.
We just watched the Halloween episode of Parenthood and now I am so ready to celebrate.
I probably won't go all out.
But I will wear my Kitty ears for sure.

Are you planning on dressing up?

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Poetry Thursday

Alabama Kitty

New York Lindsey
Fading Spokane

Consider dusk
as it creeps in along
grooved streets between buildings;
sun so low and far behind those
western hills.  Filth coated alleys
give in to encroaching dark.
Sounds of trains start to mean.
But cars move as if it were daylight, as if
it were not time to vacate a downtown
half alive even when full.
Everything is turning grayer.
And like a life, when he is 80 and remembering
the lows of his existence,
all he can do is repent.

I must add that everytime I read this poem I think of one of my very favorite songs.
Please, go listen to it after you read Dan's poem.

Happy Mail From MY Queen of Treasure Hunting

My Mommy is MY Queen of treasure hunting.  I feel that I learned from the best.
She is always on the hunt for pretties for her three daughters.
We all have very different styles, which I think makes it more fun and easy for her.
She found this adorable set of swimsuit coasters.
This one is my favorite.
She told me about her senior trip to Florida where she wore one that was similar.
My Mommy didn't have her own swimsuit to take on the trip.
So my Aunt Carol borrowed one from a friend and it was a bit out of style (at the time).
She wished she could have had one like all the other girls.
But, I'm sure she looked HOT in that suit.

These crocheted undies just melt my heart.

I love entertaining and this little book is full of tid bits of propriety.
Plus it is called The Sweet Nellie Book of...
My Grandma's name was Nellie, how sweet.

This kitty pencil box is my new favorite treasure.
I love those kitties.

To top it off, my dear Mommy sent these place mats.
They hold so much sentiment with me.
My baby blanket was made out of the same green and white gingham and my baby rocker was blue with white polka dots.

Mommy, you have some mad skills.
Thank you for teaching me everything I know.
I love you,
Fritzi Marie

In Need Of A Perk Me Up?

I'm in the mood for a perk me up.
I think you probably are too.
This Nouvelle Vague video always does the trick for me.
I love how they used this classic footage from Band of Outsiders
It always makes me want to get up and join them.
Wont you dance with me?

Happy Wednesday Dear Friends.

love love,
Fritzi

p.s. The end of the video is the very best part and this poem made my whole day.

Movies On The Brain

I'm not feeling 100% today and all I can think about is cuddling up on our couch and watching movies.
The movie I really want to see, Blue Valentine, is not out yet.

I'm thinking that I need to watch The Notebook to get my Ryan Gosling fix.
I wonder if Daniel will be up to it tonight?
I take that back.
I wonder if Daniel will be up to watching all but the last ten minutes of The Notebook tonight?
No one should have to re-watch the last ten minutes of that movie.

We did watch The Greatest last night.
Such a good movie.

Have you watched anything worthwhile lately?
I'm making a list.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Flea Market Finds

Treasure hunting this week was a lot of fun and I came home with some gems.
My favorite find this week is the book, Vintage Aircraft Nose Art: Ready For Duty
Most of you know that I love pin up girl art.
They remind me of my Daddy.
He loved pretty pin up girls.

He also told me that I looked best with bangs and I should always wear a little bit of red.

I found these vintage button collections.
The jars are old Alka Seltzer bottles.

I love old vintage buttons.
I'm only collecting the ones from my Grandma and Grandmother now so these will be going into our shop.

These outhouse salt and pepper shakers made me giggle.
My family has a thing for potty humor.

I like to pick up tins for gift giving.  This strawberry one is precious.

I have been busy all weekend working on my office/art/guestroom.
Daniel took me to IKEA in Atlanta to get some bookshelves for our Friday night date.
We also found some shelves and bins for my Etsy shop closet at yard sales on Saturday morning.
I can't wait to show you what I have been up to.

I hope you have had a lovely weekend.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Scuba Diving off Alki Beach

Even in this wet suit I can feel
the cold of the sound.
At the surface, this piling
seemed only a mooring point for that sail boat.
Here descending to 35', it gives purpose
to the anemones loitering
its length, being passive the way they only can.
Verticle flower patch brushed
by an aquatic breeze.  White and orange blossoms neighbors
to spider crabs, starfish and perch.  They all are aware,
though only slightly curious of us and our gascous
exhaust.  This gentle fall to the remains
of bivalves, fish and the billions of grains lost
to waves.  Kneeling on this detritus and lost
terrestrial ground, looking off
into green watching cabezon and lingcod fade in and out,
the wind of my regulator is all I hear.  Everything so indifferent,
like standing at 1st and Pine at noon on a Friday.  Everyone knows
their space and acts like they're not afraid.

Tennessee Me

I've been busy daydreaming about our upcoming camping trip to The Smoky Mountains.
Busy trying to get everything done before our weekend at one of our favorite places.
Bono Baby can't wait to sleep in a tent for the first time and walk on crunchy leaves.
We are hoping to be there for the peak of fall.

(Smoky Mountain Camping Trip Fall, 2008)

The Secret Sisters' debut cd was released yesterday.
My copy came in the mail.
I am planning on listening to it on our drive through Cades Cove.
But only after we listen to some Dolly Parton.

I am planning to prepare all sorts of fall goodness for this trip.
Tin foil dinners, spiced apple cider, pumpkin something, and fried apples.
 Am I missing anything?

love love,
Fritzi

p.s. I spent the afternoon treasure hunting with a new friend.
I can't wait to show you what I found.

Flea Market Finds

Dear Friends,
I came home with a LOT of treasure last weekend.
I decided to share the highlights so as not to overwhelm you with goodies.
Please check out Her Library Adventures where a whole lot of ladies are finding some serious treasure.
These chicken planters were calling my name.  I love their colors.
They remind me of my Mommy and the sweet Missouri farm that she grew up on.

This set of Italian frames are going to be in the shop soon.

I am tempted to keep this set of mini candelabras for Halloween decorations.

I had to bring this photograph of The Dionne Quintuplets home with me.
There is an article about the quintuplets pasted to the back of the frame.
They have been called "The Depression Era's Freak Show."
I have big plans to make this damaged photograph into something fabulous.

This chair has seen better days but I am going to attempt my first re-upholstering project with it.
I "hope" to use it at our kitchen table.

Then there is this quilt hanger shelf.  I left it behind once and had to go back for it.

It is now hanging in my art room over my sewing machine.
I am in love with it.

love love,
Fritzi Marie
