A Note From Bono Baby

Dear Friends,

I just wanted to tell you that I really like my new Alabama home.
But...don't tell Kitty...I really miss my Washington and California homes very much.
Kitty and Dan gave me this new sweatshirt to cheer me up.
I think I really like it.
I miss you all very much.

hugs and kisses,
Bono Baby

Treasure Hunt Show And Tell

When I am with my family, we always have show and tell after our treasure hunting excursions.
Since I am so far away from my family, I will be sharing with all of you.
This music box is from Switzerland and I love that it looks like a paint by number painting.

These souvenir pennants are so cool.

Daniel is always on a book hunt.
The English Ballet is for the shop.
Dan would never pick a pink book.

I fell in love with this sweet little frame.

This letter box was at the bottom of a junk box.  It was covered with dust and full of junk.
At the bottom of the letterbox, I found this skeleton key.
I like to imagine that it is the key to the beautiful home the sale was held at.

You all know that we are Disneyland fans.
Dan asked me to marry him at Snow White's wishing well.

This milkglass glass will be holding my makeup brushes with pizazz.

I hope you are all having a lovely week.
I am slowly chipping away at my office/art room.
Soon, very soon, many of these treasures will be up for grabs in our shop.
I am so excited about it.
love love,

p.s. We also found a small table for our deck.
I'll share soon.

On The Town

Dan humors me every Sunday.
He takes me on mini adventures.

Today we went to a park close to our new home.
It was an old vacation getaway destination.
The buildings were unkempt and the swimming pool was empty.
I wish I could have seen it in it's heyday.
Isn't that always the case?

I sported my 35th birthday dress for the adventuring.

I also carried my new little purse.
I found it at an estate sale this weekend.
I can't wait to show you what else I found.
The estate sale was in a huge, old home with a wrapaound  porch, sagging beautiful hardwood floors, and a porchswing.
It was for rent.
Dan and I talked about what it would be like to live in a large, older home.
We romanticized it until we realized that it had no air conditioning and the wiring was probably iffy.
But the treasure I came home with will always remind me of that home.
It too must have had a glorious heyday.

Dreamy Adventures Are To Be Had

Dan and I are having such a special time.
You know that time...when you move to a new place and everything is exciting.
Every outing is a new adventure.
That is the kind of time we are having.
I am in love with "this" dreamy time.

A House That Does Not Have One Worn, Comfy Chair In It Is Soulless. -May Sarton

Happy Weekend Wishes Dear Friends
I'm still busy as a bee trying to make this house a home.
My goal is to enjoy every minute of the decorating process.

I've been slowly taking the time to look at all my heirloom's and treasures.
Dan and I have decided that we will not move with this much stuff again.
We are downsizing and my little Etsy shop will be overflowing with goodness soon.
We are only keeping what we love and use everyday.

This wall has plates from my Grandmother and Grandfather Holling, a photo of my Great Grandmother, a frame from my Grandma and Grandpa Mclard's farm, treasures that Dan and I found in Mississippi and Washington and some prints from a few of my favorite Etsy shops.
The Black Apple and Mateau En Peluche.

Did you see my chair?
My Mommy found it at an estate sale in Southern California.
It was missing a leg but we all thought it was so pretty.
My Father-in-law gave it a new leg and now it is my favorite little place to sit for chit chats with Bono Baby.

Someday soon I will ask you all to come over to our country cottage for herbal tea.
I'm keeping my teacup collection, so there.

love you all,

p.s. Dan is taking me out for date night this evening.
I think I am going to dress up.

The Cat Likes Overhearing Children's Stories

Checking in to show you a snippet of what has been keeping me away from the computer.
I've been unpacking for nearly two weeks and finally the decorating is happening.

I'm not sure if you all know our little story but I'm ready to share.
Dan and I moved from Mississippi (where Dan received his PhD in English and Creative Writing) to Seattle.
Dan grew up in Seattle and  his dear parents let us live with them in their comfy basement.
Our plan was to live there for three months but the job search was heartbreaking.
We lived there for a year and 3 months.
All of our treasures were packed away in a storage unit.
Have I mentioned how much I loved living in Seattle?
Despite the job issues and my battle with depression, I would not change a thing about the year I spent living in my in-laws' basement.
Their basement is the safest little nook I have ever been in.

Now we are in our own little nook, busy making it a home.
Daniel goes to work at Auburn University and Bono Baby and I decorate.
Everything seems surreal.
I thought I would never return to the South, but here I am.
The kudzu pulled me back.
I can't wait to see what this year brings.
p.s. The gnomes are up in our front yard and so far the gang of kids that live in the neighborhood are leaving them alone.
Even little gangs of kids like gnomes, I say.

love love,

A Pocket Full Of Goodies

We took a break from our "moving in business" and went treasure hunting.
I fell in love with this set of vintage Pyrex.

We also went to see Eat, Pray, Love.
I had to eat some pasta afterwards; I just had to.
By the way,  I wish I could keep Javier Bardem in my pocket.

Did you find any "pocket worthy" treasure this weekend?

A Little Somethin' Somethin' To Look Forward To

Beautiful Katrina of Pugly Pixel will be teaching a class on how to "build a rockin' blog".
I can't wait.
Katrina has so many tricks up here sleeves and I'm itching to learn some of them.
Have you seen her photoshop tutorials?
Let me know if you sign up, maybe we can sit next to one another in class.

Happy Birthday Dr. Daniel Morris

Dear Daniel,

We hope your 38th year is your best year yet.
We can't wait to take you to Dollywood to celebrate properly.
We love you.

Greenbeans, Cornbread, Black Eyed Peas

Today was the first day of school.
Dan taught his first two classes.
We went out to lunch to celebrate.

We went to Whispering Oaks B & B Restaurant for their Southern lunch buffet.
The Antebellum home was beautiful and the food was great.
We plan to go back for Daniel's birthday feast this Friday.

If you ever stop by for a visit we'll take you there.
We like you that much!

love love

p.s. The unpacking is a bear of a process.
I can't wait to get all of these cardboard boxes off of our deck and start decorating.

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig?

After driving 3000 plus miles, we have finally arrived in Auburn, Alabama.
Our truck is sitting in our driveway and we are staying in a motel.
Silly us, we packed our bed too deep in the truck and well, it's too hot and we're too tired to finish unloading.
We are about to start our new adventure and we are pretty anxious (in a good way) about it all.

We hope you have a fabulous weekend.
Obviously we will be up to our ears unpacking.
It is going to be exciting, like Christmas.
I haven't seen my treasures in over a year.

American Graffiti

We made a pit stop at Cadillac Ranch this morning.
It was so worth the extra effort.
Well, the walk through the mud.

Aint No Bugs On Us

Dear Friends,

We are still on the road, making our way across the country.

We waved at our friends Roger and Melissa from the highway in Vancouver, Washington.
We ate In-N-Out in Southern California.
We have been picnicking at rest stops.
Bono Baby chased flies in New Mexico.
We happened upon Boot Hill Saloon & Grill Restaurant in a tiny town (Vega, Texas) on Old Route 66.
It was the best meal I have ever had on the road.

We have been in a mad rush to get to Alabama but the view from the car has been beautiful.

Wishing you the best week ever.

love love,

p.s. I can't wait to unload the truck and start decorating.

On The Road

We are on our way to Alabama.
Please wish us luck.
We have a huge Penske truck and two cars that need to make it there without a hitch.
Dan and I have mixed emotions about the move.
This photo is how I feel like I look today.
It's my stressed out look.

Also, I had my hair cut this week and it is a little bit too short for my taste.
Looking at this photo of me on a rainy day in Seattle makes me miss my hair and dear Seattle.

Dearest Seattle,

We'll be back as soon as we can.
We adore you.

I Want My Share

I took a break from packing and sneezing to watch In The Good Old Summertime with my Father-in-law tonight.
This scene made me happy.
Plus, I feel like I have been dancing about the house for the past couple of days looking a little bit crazy eyed like Judy in her red dress.
I don't want to think about it but I am going to miss movie nights with my Father-in-law.
He has such great taste in movies.
Tomorrow night we plan to watch The Harvey Girls
I'm looking forward to it.

I hope the week is treating you well.
I can feel fall in the air and it makes me sad.
Sad because I love fall in Washington so much and I am going to miss it this year.

I wonder what fall is like in Alabama?
Probably a lot like fall in Mississippi, I imagine.

Wishing you love,

Fritzi's Rules For Saying Goodbye

1. Do everything you can to leave all things better than you found them.
(I'm a Girl Scout at heart).
2. Let people know how much they mean to you.
3. Try not to get emotional.
4. Leave quietly so as not to get emotional.
5. Visit your favorite places one last time and say goodbye to them.
6. Take as many photo's as you can. When you go back it is never the same.
7. Give your friends a hug and a kiss on the cheek and try to make it seem like you're just saying goodbye till next week.
8. Give everything you don't need to friends.
9. Try to get your special people a little memento if you can afford it.
10. Cry when you drive out of town and always look back.

And always keep in touch.
Friendships are too easily lost due to neglect.

Latitudes And Longitudes

We spent our weekend visiting some of our favorite Seattle spots.
Alki Beach is one of the first places I fell in love with in Seattle.
Dan took me there on our first date.

We went with our dear friends Craig and Maria to picnic and give our goodbyes to Dear Alki Beach.
Dan and Craig have been friends forever and I'm lucky because I love Craig's little wife Maria

We also went to Molly Moon's
My sweet friend Laura gave me a gift certificate (for my birthday) to go there for a treat.
I had homemade honey lavender ice cream.
It was a delicious.
Thank you Laura.

I don't like goodbyes but I seem to get better at them with age.
I am so thankful for dear friends who lift me up and stand by me.
I feel so blessed.

"Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as to have friends at a distance; they make the latitudes and longitudes."
-Henry David Thoreau

p.s. If you ever visit Seattle (and you should) you need to go to Alki Beach and Molly Moon's.
You won't be disappointed.
I promise.
