Ear Do Dad's By Betty

Last weekend we went to the estate sale of a fascinating lady named Betty.
She was a fashion model during the 1950's.
I fell in love with her.
She squirreled away so many treasures.
I think I will cherish her photographs forever.

We bought a number of handbags from Betty's estate.
My favorite was a simple grey bag for 50 cents.
When I looked inside, I realized it was a vintage Coach bag.
It is a little beat up, but I love it.

But I need to tell you about my favorite Betty treasure.
We found a photo of her wearing these beautiful earrings.
She wrote on the back of the photo,
"Earrings made from $1.00 pair of earrings plus 2 10 cent packages of 5 x 10 rhinestones plus 10 cent roll of jeweler's wire to make a fabulous but inexpensive accessory."
Don't you just love Betty?
We went back for a second visit (to get more Betty photo's) and we found the earrings Betty made.
Dan bought them for me.

I can't wait to wear Alabama.
I wonder if Betty ever visited Alabama.

Let's Celebrate!

Last summer we got hooked on Man vs. Food.
I had a crush on Adam and Dan loves food.
The Seattle episode featured The Crab Pot.
We decided that we would go as soon as we found out that Dan got a teaching job.
It gave us something to look forward to.
Last night we went with Dan's dear sweet parents.
We had the Alaskan Feast and let me tell you, it was a grand celebration.

Thank you for all of your sweet comments and best wishes with the move to Alabama.
You all mean so much to us

Happy Happy Weekend Friends

Do you have big plans?
We plan to  procrastinate the ugly moving business and spend the weekend with our family and friends.
We have to soak up every last moment.

Our Little Announcement

Dan accepted a job offer at Auburn University in Alabama.
We leave in a week.
I think we are still in shock.

We are so very thankful.

Dan and I "officially" met on a website kind of like Facebook.
This was the Polaroid photo that reeled him in.

I ran into this print by The Love Shop and it brought back tender memories for me.
Thank you Micela of Dolce Vita.
You see, it reminds me of some quotes from one of my favorite movies, Dream for an Insomniac
The very same quotes that I had on my page that caught Daniels eye.

"Anything less than mad, passionate, extraordinary love is a waste of your time."

"There are too many mediocre things in life to deal with and love shouldn't be one of them."-David Shrader

I kind of like how this print brings back such happy memories.

I hope you are having a lovely week.
We have had some interesting things come up.
I think I'll have a big announcement to make soon.

Oh, the suspense.
Don't you love it?

"The Best Way To Learn To Be A Lady Is To See How Other Ladies Do It." -Mae West

Today in church we talked about how wonderful it is to be a lady.
We were asked to repeat after the teacher, "I am beautiful."
If you don't mind, can you do that for me?
Say it out loud.
It is so easy to give other people compliments but why can't we compliment ourselves so easily?
I want to start complimenting myself more regularly.

I've been so fascinated by dear Amanda Atkins's print, It Caused In My Heart A Forrest.
The ladies that Amanda paints are the kind of lady I hope to be one day.
This one in particular speaks to me.
I wish I could send you all one of Amanda's prints to remind you of your own beauty.

Dan has to remind me daily to stop beating myself up.
I've developed the awful bad habit of talking badly about my looks.
Shame on me.
So, I'm committing to you, my dear friends, to tell myself the "I am beautiful" everyday.
I hope you will join me in the journey.

p.s. Don't you just love this dress that my Mommy sent me?
I think I am in love with it.

Oh, Don't forget to watch Mad Men tonight!

love love,

Hot Boys Out On The Town

Dan and his buddies are at their 20 year high school reunion tonight.
I'm the annoying wife who decided that they had to have a photo to commemorate the evening.
They decided to ham up the photos but I think it's kind of cute.
When they are little old men they will thank me.

Bono Baby and I are having a date night on our own.
We have big plans to watch girlie movies "in bed".

p.s. I found some treasure today.  I can't wait to show and tell.

Love Can Turn The Wheel

I've had this song stuck in my head all day.
It got me thinking about how thankful I am for my Daniel.
My partner in...everything.

I don't mean to be mushy but I am pretty happy about having someone "who needs me."
This photo of me is from 2003 when I was 28 (I think).
I was just getting ready to "officially" meet my Dan.
That was my favorite shirt and people would call me Olive Oyl when I wore it.
I always took it as a compliment.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and maybe this song will tag along with you on your adventures.
One can wish and wish and wish and wish.

Make A Wish!

 Happy Thursday Dear Friends
How are you today?
I'm thinking we all need a good dose of wish making.
A little whimsy to lighten our day.
I wish for us all to be happy.
If I ran into a wishing well, my wish for the day would be...

Dear Wishing Well,
Please help me figure out how to get my hair done so I feel prettier.
(To be honest, I think I would make a quarters worth of wishes today)

What is your wish for today?

p.s. Bono and I were talking about the giveaway and we decided to pick a second winner via Pretty Deja we're going to send you a little something too. Please send us your new address.

Nepotism Happens?

(Mommy, early 1970's)
Happy Birthday Mommy Bear
We love you

Kitty, Dan, and Bono Baby

p.s. Bono picked a winner and the winner is...Annie Bannie Beep Beep.
There is a funny story behind this win.
My sassy baby sister always complains about never winning any of the giveaways we have.
She likes to blame Bono Baby for never picking her.
It's crazy that she won because Bono used and her number came up.
She is pretty excited about it.
Don't worry, we'll have another giveaway soon to even things up.
Thank you so much for being our freinds.
We wish we could send you all a little somethin' somethin'.
Hopefully someday soon!

Let The Sun Shine In

My boys took me on a road trip yesterday.  We took a scenic drive to Leavenworth
We got out of town and had a Bavarian getaway right here in Washington.
Bono Baby loved all the sunshine and adventure.

My favorite part of the day was our picnic.
These boys make me so happy.
I don't need to go on a Bavarian Getaway to be happy, I just need a quiet picnic in the woods with my cute family.

love love love,

p.s. Bono Baby is still in bed.  He likes to sleep in till noon.  Anyhow, he will be picking a winner for our little giveaway sometime this evening.  You still have time to enter

Takin' My New Dress For A Test Drive

My Mommy sent me a new dress from Pin Up Girl Clothing for my birthday.
They had a "yard sale" in there offices which just happened to be located in my hometown.
I sent my Mommy and she picked up two pretty dresses and a sparkle-ie purse for my b-day present.

Thank you Mommy and Dad CJ.
I will always giggle when I think of Dad CJ at the Pin Up Girl Clothing yard sale.
He said he got an education from the event.

Just a note about these shoes: my dear friend Marjorie sent them to me and I am in LOVE with them.
I can't wait to wear them with my slinky black satin dress on a special date night with my Daniel.
love love,

p.s.  Don't forget to put your name in the hat for our little giveaway.

"Some People Are So Touchy"

Last night we went to sing our hearts out at the Grease Sing-A-Long.
It was the best night out I have had in a while.
We double dated with our dear friends Craig and Maria and we spent the evening in a theater full of Pink Ladies and T-Birds.
I loved every minute of it.

If the Sing-A-Long comes to your town, go on a busy night, dress up, and get ready to hoot and holler and sing with abandon.
Also, seeing the movie on the big screen was so cool.
I noticed so many little details that don't stand out on our TV.

I promise no one will make fun of you if you sing out of tune.
It was a priceless evening full of good times.
Dan and Craig are going to their High School's 20th Reunion this weekend.
I think that watching Grease was the perfect way to prepare for that.

love love,
Fritzi "Rizzo" Marie

p.s. My favorite sing a long moment...Grease Lightning.

A Cupcake Inspired Giveaway

Dear Friends,
Today was the last day of my birthday week and what a week it was.
I'm having a little giveaway to let you all know how much you mean to me.

The lovely Katrina of Pugly Pixel just opened up her newest Etsy shop, Pugly Pixel's Pictures and Prints.
I couldn't be more excited about it.
Everything Katrina does is magical.
Her 4 x4 photograph, Pick A Pastry from her Small Dreams collection will be the inspiration for this giveaway.
The winner will receive a care package full of pastel, tea party-ish items as well as this pretty photograph.
So, leave a comment about your favorite birthday memory and go say hello to Katrina.

Bono Baby will pick a winner on Wednesday July 21st (my Mommy's birthday).

Thank you for being YOU,
Fritzi Marie

I Wanna Hold Your Hand

We've been spending snippets of this week swimming in the lake and pretending to be sea otters.
Sea otters like these.
Dan even let me pretend to be the Little Mermaid and tried to reenact this Dirty Dancing scene with me this afternoon.
Don't tell anyone though.
love love,

24 Hours of Wishmaking

My birthday was full of love.
Love, my dearies, lots and lots of love.
Thank you for making it so special.

Monday, July 12, 2010

It's official, my birthday week is here.
There is no more time to work on my 34 before 35.
Tomorrow is the big day and I can't be grumpy about it anymore.
I love a birthday, any birthday, even a 35th birthday, especially if it is mine.
I'm a birthday girl!
I'm going to live it up and make this the best year ever.
But first, I need to watch one of my favorite movies and let Duckie Dale serenade me into this new year.

Let's celebrate, for this is the year of progress.

She's Got Bells That Jingle, Jangle, Jingle

Happy Weekend Friends

I'm taking this weekend to prepare for my 35th birthday.
I'm going to stay away from the computer and give myself a little break.
I need to take some time to remember all of the things I have done in my 35 years and forget about what I have not done yet
I'm also going to be busy planning my birthday picnic.
My Mom would take us to her parents farm in Missouri in the summertime and I remember celebrating many birthdays there.
We had huge family picnics with lots of strawberries and watermelon.
This is the year for my crazy-quilt-family-picnic birthday party in Washington State.

I'll see you on Monday, with bells on...

Kindness Can Change The World

I am ever amazed by the kindness of my friends.
It seems that one of them always comes to my rescue when I need them most.
This past week, actually this past year, has been full of such rescue efforts.
I could not be more thankful and more ready to come to your rescue.
Today, my dear friend Lindsey sent me a "neighbor vase" and some other truly beautiful goodies
I can't wait to wear the vintage scarf she sent my way.
Lindsey and I have never met but I consider her to be one of my greatest friends.
How special is that?
Oh, how I wish we were neighbors but I will always think of her when I look at my "neighbor vase" and know that she is just an email away.
Thank you for being my friend Dear Lindsey.

I won Marsinah's summer giveaway on her blog Blushing Pearl.
She and I met while taking an online class.
She is from California (like me) and living up here in Seattle.
She has the most beautiful shop full of letterpress printed goodies that she creates on her vintage letterpress.
I was so surprised when her Blue Magnolia Flat Notes landed on my doorstep.
Surprised because we live in the same neighborhood.
I love that.
Thank you Marsinah for inspiring me and sending me such a beautiful set of cards.
They will soon be on there way to my friends in the south who love love love their magnolias.

It's the little things that matter.
The friendships we make and treasure can change our lives.
I want to be a good friend.
It means so much to know that someone out there is cheering you on and wishing you the best.
I'm cheering you all on, right now.
Can you feel it?

There's No Such Thing As The Next Best Thing To Love

The sun is "officially" out here in Seattle.
It's eighty degree's and I couldn't be happier about it.
Yesterday, I watched Gidget.
I love Gidget.
My parents bought it for me on laser-disk when I was in middle school and it makes me happy.
If we ever move back to California, I'm going to learn how to surf.
I'm going to wear shorts and not worry about how I look in them.
I want to relive the days of my youth and have a bonfire at the beach.
Do movies do this to you?
Do they take you back to a special time in your life?  .

Okay, I'm off to enjoy the sunshine.
love love,

Eyes That Sparkle

Maybe it has something to do with getting older, but I'm starting to see myself differently.
I've been noticing lately that I'm getting my Daddy's sparkle-ie eyes.
My Dad's eyes would sparkle when I walked into the room with a Frosty or dono or any other kind of goodie
That's the sparkle I'm talking about.
I think Daniel makes my eyes sparkle instead of goodies and I'm cool with that.

I went to a funeral yesturday.
A dear friend of Daniel's family passed away.
He always reminded me of my Dad but then again older retired engineers who wear suspenders tend to hold a soft spot in my heart.
My Dad passed away 9 years ago on July 5th.
I haven't been able to celebrate July 4th properly since.
I always think this year will be different but not yet.
This funeral was rough for me.
I slept in thinking I could get out of it.  Sleep it away.
But I just knew I needed to drag myself out of bed and go.
I'm happy I did; funerals are important.

Going to funerals and facing days that are hard for us is difficult.
Life is difficult, but we can always find a reason to celebrate.
Today I want to celebrate that I now have sparkle-ie eyes.

A Bushel And A Peck

We spotted these flowers while walking Bono Baby in our neighborhood.
I think they look like fireworks, super fancy ones.

p.s. Linda of I Love My House, you won the giveaway.
I hope you will think they look like super fancy fireworks and make you feel special, because YOU are.

Happy Birthday Dear America

Signing in to wish you all the best of 4th of July weekends.
Thank you for all of your tips on getting out of a funk.
I've been busy trying them all out and I think they are working.
Oh, I went to the fireworks stand to get the biggest sparklers I could find.
I've decided that sparklers and strawberries are my cure all.

Happy Weekend Friends
