Lips Like Sugar

Dan and I are back together (I've been out of town) and we are having too much fun getting back into the swing of things.

I just wanted to let you know that I've missed you.

Happy Sunday Dear Friends

California Snapshots

I'm back in Washington.
These were some of my favorite sights while home in California.
Everything comes to life in California.
Especially me.

Happy 101

I'm still in California. The rain followed me down from Seattle but today is sunny. I've spent my morning sitting in my parents backyard soaking in some sunshine. I think everything is okay here and I am getting ready to return to my Daniel. I'm returning a changed woman, one who has been to the salon for a manicure, pedicure and eyebrow wax (I haven't taken care of that business in 8 months).
I was just awarded my first blog award. How exciting. Katrina from Pugly Pixel sent it my way.
To receive it properly, I need to post 10 things that make me happy. This is my list for today, Monday January something (my list changes daily).

10 Things That Make Me Happy Today

1. Finding old photo's of me as a wee one. Especially ones like the one above that I have never see before.
2. Sleeping in the bedroom I grew up in and looking up at the glow in the dark stars that my sister pasted to the ceiling years ago and humming Carpenter's songs in my head as I drift off to sleep. (We listened to that tape every night).
3. Finding new treasure to sell in our Etsy shop. I love the hunt and my favorite part about our shop is when we make a sale and I get to put special care packages together.
4. Stepping out of my comfort zone to make a new friend. Even though it is scary.
5. Coming home and watching movies with my parents.
6. Today, being away from my Daniel for a short while makes me happy. Why? Because when we're apart I miss him so much and it makes me feel so blessed to have him in my life.
I feel like the luckiest girl in the world when I step back and look into my life.
7. Watching a puppy rescue from the flooding LA River the other day made me super happy.
8. Mozzarella and tomato sandwiches from Fresh and Easy.
9. Finding the perfect cardigan or dress that I can feel super pretty in.
10. Listening to a favorite song over and over while driving around in Monrovia, California with the windows down.

I'm passing this on to Kristen and Jeannine (two of my bridesmaids).

Ladies, I wish you could be here with me, in the sunshine, in that car, singing out loud, with me.

Someone In California Loves You

I'm heading out on a last minute trip home to California.
I will miss you all for the next week or so.
Most of all, I will miss my Daniel and Bono Baby.

I Want A Cabin And A Treehouse Too

Our Daniel got home from his weekend with the boys.
They spent the weekend in his friend's cabin in Idaho.
Can you believe that his friend built this cabin with his wife?
I am so impressed.

p.s. I can't wait to have a girls weekend.

Gonna Catch A Big One

A few weekends ago we found a some estate sales of people who loved blue (like me) and the treasures overfloweth. We are re-working the clock. The yellow vase will probably go in the shop. I'm in love with the hand woven change purse from Wales, so I'm keeping it. The dainty blue mesh fingerless gloves will be featured in our shop (we're on the hunt for a friend with small hands to model them properly).

I wish I could show you all of the treasures we find but that will have to wait until we get our home all settled and such. This past weekend we found project supplies. My father-in-law bought me this hole puncher and we found this old set of letter and number stencils that I can't wait to work with.

I have a growing collection of birds (thanks to my Mommy, who is always on the hunt for Kitty goodies at estate sales in Southern California). I love them. My Mother-in-Law calls them mushroom birdies.

We also found a large stash of old clothes pins and this lovely seat cushion that I can't wait to showcase in our new home.

Oh, how I love treasure hunts.
We Miss Our Daniel

Here is my new hair. I had to pull out my emergency Hello Kitty umbrella (a special gift from a friend) so I could take Bono Baby out after my hair appointment. Bono loves to tromp around in the mud and I like to keep my hair dry after someone has given it a good straightening out (I have no patience with my hair).

Bono Baby and I have had some one on one buddy time. My weekend was spent going to estate sales, getting my hair done, going to see Reverend Payton (and some great rockabilly bands), and chilling with Bono Baby.

Daniel spent the rest of the weekend in Idaho, in a cabin, with a bunch of poets, playing card games.
I think Bono Baby liked his one on one time with Kitty. We watched a Gene Kelly movie, took walks in the drizzle and we fit in a couple of catnaps.

We can't wait for Daniel to come home and tell us all about his adventure.

What did you do this weekend?

Happy Weekend Friends

Dan is taking me on a date to see The Reverend Payton's Big Damn Band this weekend.
We so wanted to see them when we were living in Mississippi but we missed out.
The band is from Indiana but they remind me of my time in Mississippi.
We are so excited to be able to see them here in Seattle.
Go take a listen here or here.

That reminds, me I need to order our King Cake so we get it in time for Mardi Gras.

What are you doing this weekend?

If I Were A Barbi Doll, I'd Like To Look Like Her

When I was a little girl my Daddy didn't want me to play with Barbi dolls.
He didn't like that they had such "feminine accents".

We found this 1965 Student Teacher Barbi and I'm thinking my Daddy would approve.
She is beautiful and she is a teacher.

Was there a toy that you didn't get when you were growing up?

Crush Wednesday

Today I have a crush on this lady's hair.

I spent my morning listening to Ottis Redding's Try A Little Tenderness, over and over.
Then I was carried away, back to high school.
Reliving my love affair with Duckie Dale.
Oh, Duckie you were the ultimate crush for a 16 year old.

Today I'm looking forward to my next hair appointment so I can copy this hairstyle (thank you GingeyGinge) and my hot date with Dan (my crush of all crushes) this Friday.

p.s. My first crush was Jason Bateman from Valerie in 1986.

Bono Baby and I have been taking lots of long walks in the Washington drizzle.
We have also been watching a lot of news about Haiti.
We are so sad and desperate to help.
Bono has been wearing his red raincoat that just happens to match the American Red Cross.
I know things are really hard for everyone right now but please donate if you can.
Here is a link to a way to donate to Red Cross from your cell phone.

We love you,
Kat and Bono Baby

Kitty Surprises

Daniel gave me this Hello Kitty notebook last night.
It is for my 34 before 35 list.
I LOVE that he knows me so well and he remembered to use the label maker to put my name on it.

I'm up to #24 so far.
You're suggestions have been so helpful and inspirational.
I have "officially" started a number of them.
I'll spread them out so it is more exciting (and motivating) for me.
love love,

Today, I wish I looked and felt like I did in this photo (taken this fall). Instead I'm wet, chilly, and my face is broken out. But, my world is full. I'm wet, chilly and broken out with Bono Baby and Daniel by my side.
My world is full of embraces and I am so thankful.

love you,

p.s. I've been listening to Leonard Cohen this morning, went on a walk with Bono in the rain which made me wet and chilly, and I've been looking at old photo's. I didn't like this one enough to share last fall but now, I think it looks pretty good. Oh, I also updated our little shop.
Now, I need to go figure out my 34 before 35.
Wish me luck.

Suggestions, please

I've been sick all weekend and I've been feeling really old.
I was looking at photo's and this one stood out to me.
It was taken when I was 26, I think.
I remember it was Halloween.
Bono Baby looks so little and young.
I look young too.

I was reading Brittany's blog post about her 34 Things To Do Before She Turns 35, and I was so inspired.
This year will be my 35th year as well.
So, dear friends, my goal for this week is to come up with my 34 before 35.
Let me know if you have any suggestions.

update: I've been watching Roseanne re-runs (I love John Goodman). Roseanne just said that she is 35. I'm kind of freaking out about that.

Dapple Lumplings

"Want to know a secret?
Promise not to tell?
We are standing by a wishing well.
Make a wish into the well,
and if you hear it echoing,
your wish will soon come true."
-Snow White

Today is my day to write thank you notes.
I'm ashamed to be getting them out so late (late for me) but everyone loves a good thank you note (anytime) right?

My dear friend Karyn sent me Snow White on DVD for Christmas.
She knows me so well and she's smart.
She called Dan and he told her it was on my wish list.
I think I'll watch it again while I write my thank you notes.

Snow White is my favorite Disney character.
I love her.

Who is your favorite Disney character?

Happy Thursday Dear Friends

And The Winner Is...

Dear Kristie.

I've been having so much fun putting your giveaway package together.

I want you all to know that I love you.
I wish I could make all of your wishes come true.

love love love,

p.s. You are all WINNERS in my eyes.

Let Go, Little Mister

I found this little girl with her puppy last weekend at the Magnolia estate sale.
I fell in love with it.

I gave it a Kitty make-over.
Now, the little girl is a brunette (like me) and the puppy has black ears and spots (like Bono Baby).
Make-overs make me feel like twirling around and around,
with delight.

love and hugs,

Misty January Day

We set out on this misty January Tuesday to follow the day.
Bono Baby likes to shake the mist away.
Shake...shake...shake...Bono Baby.

These Mary-Janes will be going into our little shop tomorrow.
Few things make me happier than a good pair of Mary-Janes.
If only they fit my feeties.

We also found this desk for forty dollars.
Do you think I need it?
I'm debating.

Love you,

p.s. We can't wait to pick the giveaway winner tomorrow. You have until tomorrow morning to enter. I don't want ANYONE to miss out.

Magnolia Saturday

We went to an estate sale in Magnolia this morning.
Dan was super excited because that meant we ate lunch at Red Mill Burgers.
"One of the 20 burgers you must eat before you die."
-Oprah and G.Q Magazine

I had a veggie burger and onion rings and let me tell you, Oprah is one smart lady.

p.s. The estate sale was in the cutest little home of a lady who collected all sorts of treasures that were right up my alley. I think she would be happy to know that I will cherish them and think of her often. Don't you?

Oh, don't forget to sign up for the giveaway. You have till Wednesday.
Good Luck Dear Friends.

We Are Off To A Good Start

We had our family good luck meal today.
Did you know that black eyed peas stand for good luck?
If you eat cooked greens it means you'll be financially stable.
We had pork too (but I didn't eat any) and pork represents progress.
Corn sticks are just plain good.

Do you have a good luck ritual for the New Year?

p.s. The giveaway is open until next Wednesday.
Go Make A Wish!
