Treasure Hunt Saturday Morning

It was a rainy, damp Saturday morning so we went to The Pastry Garden for breakfast. It is nice to go there and not be working. Anyhow, Sonya (my Boss-lady/friend) knew about an estate sale so off Dan and I went. It wasn't too impressive but we walked away with two new treasures. This cheese plate is priceless. Dan and I have a thing for cute little mice. Dan has a few poems about mice. You can read them here and here. This cheese plate also says cheese and I love things that say what they are on them.

Speaking of blatantly obvious labeled items, we found this gem of a cookie jar. At first I thought I would pick it up and sell it on Etsy but after bringing it home I think it needs to be mine. It doesn't really fit in our home now but who cares, we're moving soon.
I've always wanted to be one of those little ladies who always has cookies on hand to give out to young friends. But, this is not the right time in my life for that. We can't have cookies in our house. They are too tempting. So sad. Instead, this cookie jar will be the home for unsalted almonds. I hope that doesn't make it sad.

For now our new cookie/almond jar is on our makeshift folding station in our kitchen. I will always think of my time in Mississippi working at The Pastry Garden peddling cookies, when I look at it. Here is a fun article about where I work. You gotta love a girl who gives out cookies, right?
Happy Saturday Gallivanting

Horray for Suzanne and Baby Max
Suzanne's baby shower was lovely (if I do say so myself). I am so happy for Suzanne and her Neil. This will be their first baby boy and I'm sure his big sisters will love him to pieces. Baby Max will be welcomed into his own "Wild Rumpus" and we hope he felt us showering him with love tonight.
We love you Baby Max.
p.s. Suzanne we love love love love you.
Baby Shower Madness

I've been running around like a crazy lady getting my little house ready for tonight's baby shower. Please keep your fingers crossed for me.
My perfectionist ways get overwhelming at times like this.

I'm obsessed with listening to my Before Sunrise/Before Sunset Soundtrack.
So, I'm sending this to you, dear friends. With wishes for a lovely weekend.
love and hugs,

Stacks of Drama

When I met Dan, I stopped journaling. This makes me really sad. I have the rest of my teenage years and twenties documented. I've found that I journal most when my life is full of drama or boy dilemmas. When I met Dan I was 29. I was busy going to school, working 3 jobs, and enjoying my single girl life. Dan calmed me down and I stopped journaling. This makes me sad because I wish I had all those moments and feelings written down in a pretty little book.
Well, another thing that I like about my 30's is that I started blogging in my 30's. I've decided to document my life in a positive way. I try to document the happy times and I've found that this form of journaling makes me a better person.
My 30's have been more positive. I've decided not to let the negative in as much. I had a roommate in college named Michelle. She would always tell me about how I needed to let it roll off my back like a duckie. I didn't let that sink in until...my 30's.
p.s. This doesn't mean that I don't have my drama queen moments anymore. Too Bad.

Oreo was at work yesterday for a bit and he made my whole work week better. How could you not be happy with a little puppy like this one about? He may not be Bono Baby but he is a good Mississippian puppy friend.
I thought you all needed to see how cute he is.
hugs and puppies forever
Get going, you have things to do.

While I'm anxiously waiting to feel 100% better, I'm finding that my to-do list is getting longer and longer. I have so many things I want and need to do but all I am getting done is going to work. That is one thing I don't like about being in my 30's and getting older, the list grows longer.
Speaking of lists, I made one about the things I like about being in my 30's.
So, I'm being optimistic.
Every morning I look in this mirror on my way out the door. This photo doesn't show me on one of my best hair days but it does prove the point I am about to make.
Dan wanted me to grow my hair out. I think I have been through most hair stages and shades. My 30's and Daniel's request have brought on my best hair. I love the color, length and style. I think it suits me.
Hooray for my 30's hairstyle.
p.s. I promise that my list of cool things about being in your 30's does involve some things besides vanity.
Just for kicks I'll put in a photo of a bad hair style for me.

I wish I could go back and do it over again.

Happy Fat Tuesday, Dear Friends.

In your 30's...

you start to like yourself.
In my 30's, I settled on my style icons. I've also got my beauty routine down. I don't have to go into Sephora and impulse buy anymore (though I wish I could afford to). Instead, I can order my favorites and look pretty all the time without making make-up mistake purchases.
That is one cool thing about being in my 30's.
Do any of you have any make-up must haves that you would like to share with us?
Women in there 30's like to share the wealth (of information).
I'm hittin' the road...

and getting my squeally girl voice ready.
Okay, well first I am working on getting to feeling 100 percent. I have a week to prepare myself for an evening with Morrissey. Isn't he a dreamboat?
My dear friend Genevieve is turning the big 30 next week so we are taking a road trip to Florida to see the man in concert.
So, this here blog is going to be dedicated (for the next week) to what I like about being in my 30's.
So get ready to celebrate friends.
Hooray for getting older and wiser.

If your home sick in bed, you should find out your personal style. Because, we all need someone to tell us what our personal style is right? Sproost has a fun furniture and interior decorating style exam. I'm interested to hear what your style is. They said mine was a mix of cottage chic, french eclectic, and Hollywood couture. I can see that.
What is your personal style?

I love my bed.
I love my laptop.
I love my portable DVD player.

My day in bed hasn't been all that bad. Sure, I feel like poo but I've been well cared for and entertained. I've been watching some of my favorite movies. I spent my evening watching Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. Dan went out with friends and had a hamburger. He hasn't had one in a while and I think he deserved it for sure.

I found another graduation dress option.
What do you think about it?

I also spotted this adorable tea pot that I'm adding to my wish list.
I love pretend shopping on my laptop.
It makes me happy.

Well, I'm gearing up to watch Amelie.
Despite being sick, I love being able to watch my favorite movies in bed.
Bonne nuit.
A whimsical afternoon get-away

We decided to get out of town. Dan and I went on a drive up to Jackson, Mississippi, to do some shopping and eat dinner. They finally opened up some decent shops in Jackson. Many of you know that my retail therapy went out of the window when I moved to Mississippi. Probably a good thing being on a student's budget and all. Now they have a fancy schmancy shopping center in Jackson. It felt like we were at Paseo Colorado in Pasadena. It was a nice break. We went to Anthropologie and Barnes & Noble. We also went out for Chinese food and our fortune cookies were right on.
Here's Dan's fortune. It's like the fortune cookie fairies knew exactly what he needed.

Here's my fortune. I wonder what it might mean?

Sadly, I came home sicker than a dog (well, a cute little sick puppy).
I had a sore throat when we left. Now I'm laid up in our comfy bed and getting ready to get up and go to the doctor.
Poor Me.

update: I'm home from the doctor and she said I won't be having the best weekend and I will spend most of it in bed. Our celebratory weekend away will have to wait until after Dan finishes his disertation.

Dan just took his last comprehensive exam.
This is a joyous time indeed.
Let's Celebrate.

An afternoon tea party with 3 pretty girls and 2 silly pugs.

I was invited to a tea party. I thought I was coming over to chill but was surprised with the most delightful little tea party. I was in my stinky work clothes and I wished I had been in proper tea party attire. So sad.

Suzanne treated me such a lovely afternoon tea. She even used the tea pot I gave her for her birthday a year or two ago. It matched her teacups perfectly and it made me happy to see her using it.

Have I mentioned that Suzanne is going to have a new little one soon. I'm throwing her a shower next weekend and I can not wait. It is going to be the most fun.

Emma is so polite and pretty. She just got her ears pierced and is now to the hoop wearing stage. This is exciting.

Elise is adorable and ready to conquer the world in her plastic heals.

Here I am looking not so festive. But, I am with two of the cutest pugs I know.
To my 3 little lady friends and 2 pug buddies,
Thank you for inviting me over for the most lovey afternoon.
love. love. love.

Love, Kat and Dan

Tippie. Tippie. Toe. Toe.

I'm in LOVE with these stenciled floors.
Beautiful.

Toot. Toot. Toot.

I just wanted to toot my Dan's horn and let you know that he got an honorable mention.
Early Fat Tuesday Celebrations

I fell for this print and then found out that Dan's professor, Martina Sciolino, painted it.
I love it and I think it fits with this post about Fat Tuesday, so there.

Jeff invited us over for some King Cake and celebrating. His Grandma used to send him a King Cake from a bakery in New Orleans every year and now his Mom has taken over the tradition.

It was covered with chocolate and coconut. We abandoned our new eating plan for the festivities.

Will opted to eat a cupcake. Because he is Will.

Michelle being pretty like always.

Jeff got the baby and I was jealous. He bit into it later after we left and gave it to Dan to bring home. I was hoping I would get the baby.

Why, because those plastic babies are cute.

Hooray for Fat Tuesday celebrations and many thanks to Jeff's Mommy for the delicious King Cake.

Who got the baby?
KITTY CAKES

Happy Birthday Auntie Alma

My sassy-pants Auntie Alma is one year younger today. She needs us all to send her some happy thoughts because she isn't feeling too well. Auntie Alma, be strong you whipper-snapper you.
I've decided to stay here with Dan and not go to Missouri for Aunt Velma's funeral. My thoughts are with my family right now but I'm standing by my man. Dan is chin deep in exams and I'm in it with him.
Auntie Alma and Aunt Velma, I love you.
Dan, I can't wait for this week to be over.
I'm here for you.
p.s. Click on that photo of Auntie Alma and make it bigger. I think I look like her a little bit.

Sunday Afternoon Drives

My dear Aunt Velma passed away last night. So today was all about her. I imagine that she would have liked to drive around with us. She loved to read. She loved Dan's poems about the McLard farm.

I miss her already.
"Love means never having to say your sorry."
-Love Story

My sweet Daniel and I had a Valentines Day picnic on our living room floor last night.

Dan sang one of our favorite songs. I love it when he sings because he ROCKS with his eyes shut.

Our Thai food came with a heart shaped carrot. How thoughtful and appropriate.

Dan let me pick the movie for the night. We watched Love Story.

It was a lovely night.

Love Day Eve

We got this adorable Valentine from our parents today. We thought it was the cutest Valentine card ever. It was a happy mail day indeed. I also got the last issue of Domino and I'm still sad.
Boo. Hoo.
I'm off to have a night in with my favorite man, Mr. Daniel. We have big plans to stay in and watch guilty pleasure movies. I'm going to make cupcakes for loved ones here in town and finish up the baby shower invites.
I wish I could bring cupcakes to all of you and tell you how much you mean to me.
love you.
xoxo

Busy Bee Thursday Reports

Dan took his first exam. He felt good about it. We went out to celebrate at our favorite beverage spot for a Diet Coke. I also took him out to try on one of his Valentines Day presents. (I'll fill you in later.) Also, Daniel surprised me with these treasures. You see, I've been moping around about the demise of Domino Magazine (like so many of you). So, sweet Dan ordered me the Domino decorating book I've been wanting and he bought me these magazine holders to hold the issues I held on to. Isn't he the best?

We had big plans to celebrate but instead we had stir fry and I worked on the invitations for the upcoming baby shower I'm throwing for my friend Suzanne.

I think they look adorable.
I'm patting myself on the back here.

Happy Friday Dear Friends
