Summer Reads

My Daniel is a man who loves books. He writes poetry and he teaches English.
Sometimes he edits my blog.
He also recommends wonderful books.
But, this summer I've been looking for a book to get lost in (a beach read).
My Mommy says I need a good romance novel.
I'm not sure about that but I did get a great list of books from you, my friends.
-anything by Anita Shreve
-Niagra Falls All over Again by Elizabeth McCracken
-Brooklyn by Colm Toibin
-Julie and Julia by Julie Powell
(I can't wait to see the movie)
-The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski
-Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
-Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

Laura's List
-I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
-The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Amy's List
-Quentins by Meave Binchy
-Shadow Spinner by Susan Fletcher

The library's here in the Seattle area are amazing and it seems like every book I want is available. Love that. So I started my summer reading list off with Stephanie's recommendation, Confessions of a Shopaholic. Stephanie was my roommate in college and she and her Daddy first recommended that I read On the Road by Jack Kerouac (this helped me find my Daniel). If Stephanie recommends a summer read, you read it.
I finished it last night. I loved it. Stephanie was right, it was so so so much better than the movie.
Thank you friends for helping me with my Summer Reading List.
I'm off to find my next book
p.s. Please, keep the recommendations coming.

Add "Hattie Big Sky" by Kirby Larson to the Laura List.

I agree with anything by Anita Shreve, they're great summer reads.
I just read The Book Thief and absolutely loved it, so I recommend that too.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE when I have a great book to read. I'm glad to see all of these great suggestions. I might have to try one or two. Unfortunately, my library doesn't seem to have the books I'm looking for. They're nice about ordering them for me though. I'm just not too good about waiting.

I'm glad you liked Shopaholic! The 2nd one in the series is good, too, but after that, they just get ridiculous.

On the Road comes highly recommended my husband, too. Right now, I'm reading Dharma Bums and so far so good!

I read Confessions of a Shopaholic a few years ago -- of course, that was fun -- a guilty pleasure, more like. Have you seen the movie? Rented it from the library last week and it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. :)

Love your Malibrans, Kat.

I laughed outload when you said Dan edits your blog sometimes! Thats awesome! Sexy legs by the way :o) I'm trying to read Little Alters Everywhere by Rebecca Wells (I beleive its the first in the series before Divine Secrets of the Ya ya Sisterhood). The author is from Pineville, LA area where my parents live and talks about it in the book so... I'm also trying to read The Shack.
