Jake was attacked by a shark while on his daily swim. Minding his own business and getting his work out in. Mean shark. His owner came to the rescue and gave that shark a talking to (with his fists.)
Thank goodness they are both okay.
FYI: I would do the same thing in a quick second if a shark messed with my Bono.
The eve of September 30 means October 1st is tomorrow.

October 1st means (for me) that it's time to get in the storage closet and get out all of the Halloween and fall decorations and get to work. Our to do list for this weekend now includes cleaning out the storage closet because I can't find ANYTHING. But, I worked my way through it and tomorrow is the day for decorating and making banana bread cupcakes. YUM.

This little puggy makes me happy.

Shout Out

My dear siblings have been all over the place this past week. Annie went to Mexico. Benner went to DisneyWorld. Buffy went to Oklahoma. I hear through the grapevine (aka Mommy) that all Holling chick-a-dee's are home safe and hopefully have good stories to tell of their adventures. My request is this, call your big sis. I need to know what kind of adventures you had. I'm nosey. Oh, and Benner I noticed that you checked in today and yesterday while I was napping and I'm the jerk who hasn't called you back yet. I promise to call you tomorrow.
love you all.
Bono...You look super cute in that photo.
Fall Telivision is back in full swing

I mean really did you see The Office last week? Kelly is hardcore. Anyways, Pushing Daisies returns this Wednesday. I'm so happy that they replay Project Runway and Top Design later in the evening. I am hooked on my shows and I'm happy about it. Lipstick Jungle (another favorite) is coming back on Wednesday too. What is a girl to do? I don't have Tevo and I broke my VCR. I'm a resourceful girl, I can "make it work."

Well, my point is that my Martha Mag came today and this add was in it (click on it to make it big and see how good it looks). I thought Ned and Chuck's Perfect Pear Pie looked yummy and I wanted to share it with you. I just might need to make it for the season finale. I wish I could make it this Wednesday but I'll be too busy having makeover night with my girls (YW). My wish for the day is that we would all have the time to sit down with a yummy piece of goodness (and have it magically be calorie free) and watch a favorite TV show. We deserve it girls. Go make it happen.

p.s. Sorry this post is kind of blah. I'm still not feeling 100%, so my shows are making me really happy.

Make new friends but keep the old...

one is silver and the other's gold.
We made a new friend today, his name is Billy.

These pillowcases are the cutest.
I had to share them with you.
Happy Saturday Kitties.
p.s. I must say, I think they would be cuter if they said WISH. I'm just sayin'.

Friday night 30 somethin' shenanigans

Dan woke me up from my little nappy nap with a camera. Not nice. I did tell him to wake me up though because we had places to be and people to see. At least I clean up for a night out on the town okay.

We went out on a "date for two" for smoothies at Smoothie King. The strawberry lemonade smoothie is delish. Dan says, "The angle food smoothie ain't bad either." We had a few minutes to kill before our event so we drank our smoothies in front of the administration building on campus. How quaint.

I was especially excited about this evening because it felt like fall and I was able to dress up more to my liking. I figured it was a good night to bust out the shirt that I wore on my and Dan's first date in Seattle. I know it's a bit old but Dan said it needed to stay stashed in my wardrobe and I'm glad he did.

After our smoothie date, we went to hear the poet Ellen Bryant Voigt read. She is a great poet. Check this out.
She read a series of poems from her collection Kyrie, which is a series of sonnets about the influenza epidemic of 1918.
This one is my favorite.
To be brought from the bright schoolyard into the house:
to stand by her bed like an animal stunned in the pen:
against the grid of the quilt, her hand seems
stiched to the cuff of its sleeve—although he wants
most urgently the hand to stroke his head,
although he thinks he could kneel down
that it would need to travel only inches
to brush like a breath his flushed cheek,
he doesn't stir: all his resolve,
all his resources go to watching her,
her mouth, her hair a pillow of blackened ferns—
he means to match her stillness bone for bone.
Nearby he hears the younger children cry,
and his aunts, like careless thieves, out in the kitchen.

Afterward, we went to a reception for her at the condo of one of Dan's professors. I was thrilled because I've been wanting an invite into one of the units. She lives in a converted elementary school. The units even have old chalkboards in them. If we were going to stay in Mississippi, I would want to live there for sure. The Pastry Garden catered the party so that was a nice little surprize. I didn't help with it but i recognized some of the food. Well, dear friends, we are off to end our night with a viewing of Pushing Daisies.
Nighty Night

I don't know what I won and I don't care. I got so excited about Amy's contest last week and I'm all aglow over here about Sue (Amy's Mommy) picking my idea. You see, Amy's Mommy bought this not-so-pretty thing-a-ma-jig at a yard sale and Amy had a contest to see who could come up with an idea that her Mommy would like for it's renovation.
Below are my entries...
#1 entry-
I would take all of the junk off of it and spray paint it turquoise blue. I would then spray paint a little twig silver and perch it in the little birdhouse. Then get a little birdie (you can find really cute vintage one's online) and put him in his new home. It would look really cute on a fireplace mantle in the spring. I love it. hugs,Kat
#2 entry-
I thought about this some more when I was at work today. I think the bird house idea would also work as a centerpiece for a tea party or bridal/baby shower. I just bought the cutest yellow teacups that have little blue birds on them. You could build a whole party theme around this great piece. I'm running with it in my head. I can already see the invitations. Little birds tweet tweeting around looking for a sweet branch in a pretty birdhouse to perch on. Oh, and you could make a welcome to the party wreath with the same little birdies nestled into it with pretty ribbon and a birdies holding up a welcome sign like in Cinderella. love and hugs,Kat

I seriously want to throw this party. A slumber party is in the works and it may become the theme for that but really, I think this needs to be done up right. I wish I was closer to my friends when they have their babies or that my sisters were getting married so I could throw one rockin' shower.

The party needs Hummingbird cake for sure.
I am so excited.

Hello World...

I'm back and feeling better. I went to work today, had some girl time with a dear friend, went to the gym and did laundry. Back to being a busy kitty. Thank Goodness. I hope you are all doing well. I've missed you. This week has been really hard and I'm so happy that it is almost over and that things are on the up and up.
My wish for this week is that we will all be healthy and happy.
p.s. We have hair appointments for next Thursday. I thought that might amuse some of you.
Dan's getting a trim.

I've been in bed for 2 days

I've been sleeping this headache off. Thankfully my Father-in-law set me up with a sweet laptop and it has been entertaining me. I've been dreaming of new clothes and events to wear them to. I can't wait for the weather to cool down. I just wanted to share some inspirational outfits from Hel Looks.

I have big plans to feel better tomorrow. Wish me luck. I'm out of Diet Coke so I have to get up and moving.

Happy Mail Day

Devon (one of my most favorite people) sent Mr. Dan a gift today. Devon, Daniel LOVES it. So up his alley. Thank you so much for thinking of us. We have something in the works for you. It's very RANDOM and useless but FUN for sure.

My cupcake cozies from Darlybird came today. I'm in love with them. I can't wait to make some treats. I was especially excited to hear that she is best friends with a very pretty young lady that I grew up with in Monrovia. It's a small small world.
I'm Sick-O today.
I've been in bed all day with one of my headaches. Blasted headaches. I'm missing Bono terribly and I wish my Mommy was here to rub my legs. I am the biggest baby when I don't feel well.
Thank goodness I have my Daniel. He watched Gilmore Girls with me when I couldn't sleep in the middle of the night. Dan is amazing.

My Apologies:
I'm sorry I wasn't at the gym to work out with you this morning, Melissa and Bonnie.
I'm sorry I didn't make it to work today, Jim and Sonya.

Slumber Party was a HIT

We had treats (which aren't helping my diet or my bloating issues) and we watched Atonement again.

We saw it last Christmas and I didn't enjoy it the way I wanted to. I was too irritated with my surroundings. I'm no fun in a crowded movie theatre when I have no elbow room and I'm sitting in the front row of the theatre. So, we finally got to watch it again. I loved it the second time. Thankfully I knew when to look away (the horse scene makes me too too sad).

I wore my silky jammies that Daniel gave me. I thought they went well with the movie. Kiera is too skinny but she looks beautiful in this green dress.
Well, we dressed up in our jammies. Me in my silkies. Daniel in his plaid flannels.

The little things make me happy.

If you're going to make me go to that on a Saturday...

then you get to be my slumber party friend tonight.
Horray for Saturday Night Slumber Parties.
p.s. cute jammies are required yes, that means you Daniel.
photos to come
Treasure Hunt Saturday

Dan and I went to two garage sales today. This Howdy Doody doll head was our creepiest and most entertaining find. Dan practiced his ventriloquist act at stop lights. He's got mad skills.

We met up with friends for breakfast so they were able to meet Howdy. Lucky kids. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with him but I had to have him. Here are some other things I HAD to have.

Now I have some "Voting" socks. A girl must mean business if she wears these socks to the voting booth.

These little flowers are blooming all over and I wanted to share.

I found an old postcard of The Three Del Rios. They reminded me of the movie Freaks and I feel like my circus dreams are searching me out. These three little friends had to come home with me.

Two little old ladies in moo moo's were selling off treasures for next to nothing. I fell in love with these matchbox houses. They are adorable and they came with matches.

These shoe clips will come in handy soon. I'm trying to decided if I want to paint them. Not sure yet. Sorry about my bloated feeties. Humidity and I are not buddies. I've had the Mississippian bloat for two years now.

I scored on table linens. They are chillin' in the sink for a while to get all fancied up. I thought you would all dig these embroidered cup cozies. CUTE. Oh, those little nut bars are the devil. They are my favorite little treat from The Pastry Garden and I can't keep my hands off of them. They are filled with oats and raisins and all things good.

Happy Saturday.

Make me a bird so I can fly far far away.

Well, I'm staying put with my Daniel, even though I desperately miss California. Sometimes I wish I could just stay in my house and sit the next 8 months out. But, I know that is just my bad day/week talking (in my head). I must say that I have learned a great deal about myself during the past two years. I have some things to work on but I like who I am. I do want to admit to you, that you, my blog and my blog buddies, are my outlet and my best friends. I am so thankful for this here blog. I want to thank all of you for reading it and for commenting. It means more to me than most of you will ever realize.

On a happier note, Dan and I went on a date tonight. Dan did a reading at school. He was amazing, like he always is. Afterwards, we went shopping. I was hoping to find a treasure at the local mall but I left empty handed. Boo hoo. I'd rather shop online, anyway. (I told them!) Then we went out for Dan's birthday dinner. You see, Mommy and CJ gave Dan a gift certificate to a well known eatery. We decided to wait until we had a special reason to celebrate (since Dan's birthday isn't reason enough, and we were too busy with school starting back, etc.). And since Dan's reading went well we decided tonight was the night. So, we are well fed and making the most of our Friday night.

Dan had a very HAPPY birthday dinner.
Thanks Mommy and CJ.
Miss Annie Bannie Beep Beep did me a favor.

She went and put my wishes up on the Wish Tree's in Old Town Pasadena. Yoko Ono's wish tree's are so pretty. I was so excited when I got home from work today and these photos were waiting in my inbox. A special surprise.

Annie tweaked this wish a bit. I asked her to wish that I would get to move back to the West Coast and that Dan would find a good job.

Annie's version of my wish is "Kat wishes for Dan to get a job in LA."
I thought that was funny and very typical Annie.

Peaches, you never know, right?
I will say this, I promise to never sleep on an inner tube when I'm with you.
p.s. Annie, thank you so much for doing this, it really made me happy.

I'll Take Two Lumps Please.

Your Kitty-friend has been a Downer Sally today. I have a sore throat and a bad disposition.
Dan searched and searched for a cure. I took a long nap and Dan let me throw a mini tea party. He humored me. Dan is the best.
Yes, Daniel, I would love some Peppermint tea.

Dan ordered a copy of The Little Brute Family and it came in the mail today. Happy mail day for sure. He read it to me and it was the perfect pick me up book to a day like today. I highly recommend it to anyone who is in a grump.

Well, my pinkie is at attention so I must be getting happier.

Horray for tea parties and horray for Dan.

Dan is my little Brute who always finds daisies and good feelings.

"Then one day Baby Brute found a little wandering lost good feeling in a field of daisies, and he caught it in his paw and put it in his tiny pocket. And he felt so good that he laughed and said,
'How lovely.'"
