Gustav Preparation

Dan and I are lookie loo'ers so we had to take a drive around town to see what the low down was.
I thought you would all like to be kept in the loop and it's fun to share some of our "home away from home" adventures.

Some local businesses were being smart and cautious and boarded up their expensive windows.

I worked at this Cellular South for 8 months. I was so happy that they decided to board up their windows. I spent many hours in that store staring out of those windows. Some of the nicest people work in there and they are very prepared to help with your phone needs (even if you get a little bit UGLY) in an emergency.
Go Cell South.

Smart Cookies.

Those clouds look stormy.

Dear Family,

We are going to be okay. I know you think we should have bailed but we're here to stay (so far). Daniel and Kat are troopers and we know that it's better to be prepared for the worst. So, your kitties are well prepared.
p.s. We thought you would like to see the most current photo of us just so you could think of us more. We had a date night on Friday and this is us being cute. I know, Dan needs a haircut.

I had to show you these chips. I thought they were fitting.

"Dan, do you have the camping stove ready to warm water for my cup o' soups?"
"Kitty-cakes, anything for you my hot yung thang."
If you try to get in touch with us and our cell phones don't work, try texting. Word is, that sometimes works. Regardless, we are ready and plan to help out the evacuees and puppies.
We love you so much.
FYY-Dan just got the Eagle Alert meaning that all classes have been cancelled for Tuesday.

I'm a little bit worried...
and I want to get more food in the house.
Hurricane Gustav, you are not invited over to chill with Dan and me.

Hannah and Kat make Muscadine Jelly

Hannah taught me how to make Muscadine/Cranberry jelly tonight for our Young Women activity. Woo Hoo, she just finished a project for her Personal Progress and made my tummy happy.

Hannah's Mommy taught her to make jelly and she has passed the wealth of knowledge on to me. I'm so thrilled.

Look at me slaving away over this jelly goodness. Of course my slaving away always takes back seat when a photo op comes my way.

This watched pot did boil. I love the color.

Hannah, thank you so much for showing me how to make jelly. I will always think of you and your sweet Mommy when I do it in the future.

Welcome Back Mommy and Dad CJ.
We missed you.

Mommy and Dad CJ have been unplugged for most of the summer. Their computer has been on the fritz. Hooray for cousin Todd for coming to the rescue. I'm so happy that you're back. Mommy, I hope your first day back to school was okay. Dad CJ, I'll be there in a quick minute if you need me to.

We watched Big Fish to celebrate Daddy's birthday.
I love this movie. It's pretty and it reminds me of my Daddy. I know my blog may seem like it's been a bit sad or Sappy Sally the past couple of days, but really it's on the up and up. I love to think of the stories my Daddy told me about his life. I also love the ending of this movie. I won't ruin it for anyone just in case. Some of you may know how I feel about the ending of Titanic, I feel the same about Big Fish. Love it.

I like to remember the stories my Daddy told me about his love stories,

his buddies,

the characters of his childhood,

and his dreams and wishes.

Annie Bannie Beep Beep, I know you're with me about Big Fish. I think it would have been a fun movie to watch with Daddy.

Happy Birthday Daddy Bear

You would have been 78 this year. CRAZY. I hope Grandmother makes you a lemon meraigne pie and you get to blow out all of your candles. Make lots and lots of wishes. I hope they are all about my welfare. I imagine that my cute little "future" children are sitting on your lap making wishes with you.
Cute. Cute. Cute.

This lovely Arizona R.S. Sister and her husband were in a plane crash. They need our help and best wishes. I know we don't have money to throw around but there is a donation box on my sidebar. One More Moore is also holding a Nie Nie benefit sale on Etsy, September 23-24th. I thought I would post the address so we could send them a card. I know we are all good at correspondence so let's show them we care.

I'm thinking of sending them some cd's too. I'm thinking The Weepies and She and Him.
p.s. check out Stephanie's blog. Her sister C Jane is also blogging about their progress.

Our thoughts and 11:11 wishes go out to you and your family Dear Stephanie and Christian.

I talked to one of my dearest friends today and he told me about Christian the Lion. We were talking about how much I miss Bono and how I hope he knows how much I love him. I can't wait to be reunited with Baby Bono soon.

Baby Bono and Dan make me a happy happy girl.

Happy Mail
Amy sent me the cutest notebook and pen. Dan and I are starting our SouthBeach Diet (again) tomorrow and I plan to use this lovely notebook to document everything I eat. I love it. Thank you for thinking of me Amy.

The mailman also brought my new print from The Black Apple. It is titled, "A good egg is hard to find." Daniel is most definitely my good egg. The artist had a benefit sale of her prints to raise money for her kitty's vet bill. I had to help and my arm didn't need to be twisted.

This is her temporary home. I had to move my Daddy so she could be showcased for a bit. The photo of Daddy on his Triumph is in a new location in my project corner of the living room. I like to think that he is always watching over me. His birthday is this week. He would have been 78 this year.
My favorite thing to do this week...
is to watch our backyard squirrels get chubbier while they eat mushrooms. They don't like to be photographed but I got a photo of their eats.
I found this mushroom pin for a steal this weekend and it will always remind me of our chubby mushroom eatin' squirrels from Mississippi.
Weekend Treasures

Dan and I went to a good yard sale yesterday. We also went to our favorite antique store that is priced more like a thrift store. Yippee! We found these old spools of thread. I think they look perfect on our mantle. Someday, they'll have a home in a mason jar in my future project room.

We found another vintage postcard that went with the other two we purchased last month. What a lucky find?

I was so excited when I found a twirling baton. I took baton in early middle school. I had to have it for 50 cents. I can practice around the house. Maybe I'll put together a show for Dan. I'll need tassels.

I found this ceramic candle/jewelry holder. I think it's pretty but may be a little bit more Buffy's style. She might inherit it.

We found this bird print and had to have it. I think it's precious. I love the oval frame. We haven't named our new winged friends yet but we will soon.

Dan scored when he found these whale bookends. He got them for a steal at 5 dollars. I told him they were a birthday present. I think they're cool because they remind me of Alaska and Pinocchio.

This mirror is a treasure for sure. We put it next to our front door so we can check ourselves out before we face the world.
Dan and Kat have to look their best, ya know?

This is what happens when you do dishes on Sunday.

I didn't make it to church today, "I feel like death." Dan came home to check on me and decided to do some dishes (silly compulsive Dan) while he was home. He had an episode with a knife and we had to run poor little Dan to the emergency room. Dan and his huge finger are home now. And he says, "It's still hurting." In other finger hurting news, this is old news but still one of Daniel's favorite things:

Sweet Hannah left muscadine jelly on our doorstep. She is so thoughtful. I won't let Dan slice the bread. Dan and Mr. knife are in time out.

Thank you, Pretty Hannah.

Here comes the rain again...

falling on my head like a memory.
We are right about where it says Sunday PM. I love rainy days but storms aren't my thing. Since Faye isn't a threat, I have big plans for projects and napping.
Oh, I'm also planning on taking photos of all the neat treasures I found today.
I scored. The pre-rainy weather brought me luck.
p.s. I had Dan fill up the tank just in case. I'm silly like that.

Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Efraim's Daughter Longstocking.

I wanted to be Pippi's best friend when I was little. When we would come home from church on Sundays I remember that Pippi was our favorite movie or tv show to watch on channel 5. It was like"hitting gold" if Pippi was on. I still want to be Pippi's best friend and I want a monkey named Mr Nilsson. I want to be cool just like her.
Dan told me that he has never been introduced to Pretty Pippy. So, as soon as we finish Northern Exposure, I'm sneaking Pippi to the top of our Netflix list. I hope we have a little girl one day and I can buy the movies and books for her. I also would love to go to Sweden and go to Astrid Lindgrens Land for a day full of all things Pippi Longstocking.
Hooray for Princess Pippilotta, "the strongest human being in the world."
Pippi + Ladytron... LOVE IT.
Sugar N' Spice and all that's nice

Melissa and I had fun at work today. We prettied up the desert cases. I think they turned out super cute. I bet you would all want a yummy treat from such a pretty display. Right?
Happy Friday

Movie Night with the GIRLS

I had some friends over to watch Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants tonight. I will tell you that I was embarrassed to ask for it at the video store. I need to support Rori from Gilmore Girls, ya know? I am secretly looking forward to our outing to a matinee of The Pants 2 next week. Thanks for coming over Melissa and Bonnie. I had the most fun.
Treasures from Home

My Mommy sends me estate sale treasures sometimes. This treasure box was full of goodness. I especially love the vintage needles and buttons. My Mommy is the coolest. Also, I have the sweetest Dad CJ ever. He is having a really hard time with his hip right now. He went to the Post Office on crutches to send me this with Dan's birthday present. Please keep him in your thoughts. We are hoping that he won't have to have surgery and that he'll feel 100% soon.
We love you CJ.
Back to school! back to school,
to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool! I got my lunch packed up, my boots tied tight, I hope I don't get in a fight! Ohhhh, back to school! Back to school! Back to school! Well, here goes nothing!
-Billy Madison
Dan started his last semester of course work today. He is taking his LAST two literature classes, as well as workshop. He's also teaching two classes. This is exciting news around here. Dan only has to write two more papers as a PhD student. This is HUGE.
Let's send him lots of happy thoughts and wishes.

Dan's birthday Goodness
Dan got a birthday package from my Mom and Dad CJ today. They sent him this book and a gift certificate to Olive Garden. Perfect since Dan still has one more week to be the birthday boy around here. My Mommy also sent me some super estate sale finds and I'll share them later after Dan has his day.

Hannah came over for Young Women's and helped me make birthday cupcakes. She can decorate a cupcake like no other. Thanks for keeping me company Hannah.

Hooray for Dan and hooray for birthdays.

I hope all the wishes you made come true.
