A Rose in Disguise
I'm in LOVE with this air freshener from Pier One. It smells like roses and the longer you have it, the redder the rose becomes. They had an old one at the store and it was the prettiest shade of Merlot red. I can't wait to see mine when it's old and used up. I'll save it. Anyhow, I post updates as my new little rose friend ages gracefully.
Happy Thursday dear friends.
Happy Birthday to my favorite lady, JULIE. Julie, I made your famous salsa last night and thought of you. I wish I could go camping with you this weekend. That would be the coolest.
I wanted to share this photo. I love it. It reminds me of my little sister Annie.

Happy Happy Birthday Beautiful Sona
I hope your day is wonderful and lovely just like you.
Your Sleep

Love poems tempt me to say
what I'd like to believe.
Night breathes on the window:
I can hear your body
so lonely it is singing.
I begin to write.

Bono Baby, did you know there was going to be some shakin' today?
Call me strange, but earthquakes are exciting and I missed this one. I've never been in a HUGE earthquake (knock on wood). But I did grow up in Southern California and I've been though a few tremblers. They were scary but oh, so exciting. I like to think that I can predict earthquakes by the weather, earthquake weather. I remember standing in the front yard with my family in our pj's or underthings in the middle of the night waiting for aftershocks. I saved Buffy from being hit in the head by a framed glass piece of pottery then crammed into the door frame with the whole family. It's funny how you run to where everyone else is when the earthquake happens in the middle of the night. OH, the stories. But, here in Mississippi there are no earthquakes (that I know of) they only have storms (scary storms). They aren't exciting, they are scary. Today we had a big one with crazy lightning and thunder and then HAIL. Storms are not my thing. So, Bono, I wish I was with you tonight. We could have swapped earthquake stories. I know you would want to tell me how you knew it was coming. I just know it.

Dan and I watched Flakes tonight. It wasn't the greatest movie but it was set in The French Quarter and Miss Zooey Deschanel was in it. She looked super cute as always. So I'd say that the location and Miss Zooey made it a fun movie to watch. Just don't go into it with high hopes.
I get so sad when I get my hopes up about a movie and then feel let down. So so sad.

All we need is a bubble machine...
Here is my glitter star project, in all it's glory. My number one goal is to make the next 10 months (we are moving out of Mississippi in 10 months) as pleasant as possible. Our home is the only place I feel happy so I try to make it as enchanting and magical as I can. Dan and I watch a lot of movies so I wanted to liven up our "theatre." I love it. It reminds us of The Smashing Pumpkins video "Tonight Tonight."

I'm working a temp job this week. Daniel has a birthday coming up and I want to get him a present. Anyhow, we are going to relax in our "theatre" tonight and watch The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. I'll let you know if it is any good.

Has anyone seen any good movies this summer? Please share. Also, is anyone even reading this blog? I'm starting to wonder.

p.s. Happy Birthday Beatrix Potter

Saturday Matinee
Dan is a good husband. He took me to see Mama Mia today. I had heard from a few little birdies that there was a chorus girl who looked like me. You little birdies were right, she did look like me. Well, I really liked the movie. Maryl Streep is a rock star. I love to think of getting together with my buddies when we're older and singing impromptu songs and dancing around in tutu's. LOVE IT. Give me a hairbrush to sing in and some dear friends/sisters and I'm all about it. Plus, the scenery. Oh, and you get to see Colin Firth shirtless.

Love, LOVE, love it
I'm loving this site where you can put photos into museum settings. Bono looks lovely don't you think?

I also love photographer Todd Selby's site, The Selby. He photographs famous people in their homes. I love seeing how other people decorate so I think this site is the coolest thing ever.
The high priced puppy is in Meryl Smith's New York home. He's kind of creepy but he reminds me of Baby Bono.

I think Adam Wallacavage's kitchen is so cute and whimsical. I love the striped walls and curvy cabinets.
Looking at this site makes me giddy.
Happy Happy Birthday Jennifer
Today is my beautiful niece Jennifer's birthday. I've always really thought of her as a cousin because we are only a few years apart but look at how pretty she is.
Jennifer, I hope you have a lovely birthday. When we meet up at Cade's Cove for our big picnic I'm going to bring a cake or maybe cupcakes so we can celebrate.
Love YOU.

America's Next Top Model
My cousin Ashlyn auditioned in St. Louis to be on America's Top Model. She won the local competition and they are sending her to audition for the casting directors. How exciting is that? Check this out, Scroll down the page to the Tyra photo and click on audition and look for my super cute cousin Ashlyn. What an adventure.
Let's make lots of wishes for her.
Dan did a presentation for his Latino Literature class tonight. He celebrated with a nice cold Sioux City Sarsaparilla. This reminded me of the time Dan and I went to the Calico Ghost Town in California. Dan bought me a Sioux City Sarsaparilla in the saloon. It also reminded me of a time that Buffy and I stopped in at the Ghost Town on a road trip and took old timey photos. Those photos will be hidden for a long, long time. Right, Buff?

I received some fun birthday mail. I know what you're all saying, your birthday is way over. I still want to share. Karyn sent me a lovely package full of goodness. I love the K note cards and I can't wait to have some Hello Kitty coloring fun. Also, the Target gift card is so pretty; I think I'll save it.

I wonder what I should get from Target. Any ideas?
Thank you Karyn.
I want a porch swing
Check out this super cute loft on Design Sponge. I want to move in.

Summer Lovin'
It is HOT in Mississippi. We are spending a lot of time inside in the air conditioning. I'm back on my healthy eating plan and I'm loving berries right now. I always love berries though. But they taste extra yummy because I've cut out sugar. Do any of you have some favorite summer foods your hooked on right now?

Here is Dan reading. My Daniel LOVES books. He tells me he loves books the way that I love clothes and shoes. Too bad my clothing and shoes don't make me smarter.

I can't wait to see this.

I have seen this post on a couple of my friends blogs and I have loved reading all the memories and things people have had to say. So of course I am doing it on mine..(was I supposed to copy this word for word??? Oh well..I did it anyways!)
Here are the directions:
1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!
2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.
My favorite waste of time for today
So much fun.

Thank you Benner
I love my new hat.
Happy Birthday Buffy Bear
Buffy, you have made me the happiest big sister for 25 years.
You are my Cabbage Patch kid.

If I could hop on a magic carpet and show up at your house today, I would have a DoNo cake with your name on it (and it would look a lot prettier than this one.)

You my dear sister are all of my little girl wishes come true.

You are a best friend,

a partner in crime,

and the COOLEST Lady I know.
Buffy, you ROCK.
I love you.

Learn to value yourself, which means: to fight for your happiness.
-Ayn Rand
My beautiful friend Kristie sent me this special card today. We worked together at the Norton Simon Museum store. I was so into Tamera de Lempicka. I loved that time in my life. We (the girls) would talk about art and fashion and sometimes help customers. I went through a Russian fascination phase. I think it was because I worked with Anna from Russia. She told me what Russian films to watch and she helped me understand We The Living by Ayn Rand. Anna taught me about Russian History. Tamera de Lempicka is amazing. I love that Kristie knows that I love Lempicka paintings.
Kristie, thank you for the card. I'm going to frame it.
In the wee small hours of the morning,
when the whole wide world is fast asleep...

I happen upon the movie Two for the Road on AMC. Oh, my lucky stars. I loved it. The movie chronicles the love story of Joanna and Mark. It's a film about marriage and being in love.
The title of the movie reminded me of a cd I like. Two for the Road is a love story in itself. Perfect for a road trip with the perfect person.

Happy Birthday Mommy

Mommy, thank you for making me so pretty. I hope I can be as pretty as you are when I grow up. I also hope to be as kind, generous, loving, protective, smart and wonderful as you.

You taught me how to be ME.

I love you. I love you. I love you.

Happy Birthday to the most Amazing Mommy.
Let's send some birthday love her way.

I think I'm a local Mississippian now

Well, not really. I can't see that ever happening. But I must warn you, these photo's are the after photos of a day full of adventure. Normally, I would hide the ones of me in the back of my closet. Anyhow, no parties involved are looking at their 100% best. That said, we went canoeing on a river with Roger and Melissa. I must say, it was a fun packed day filled with blueberry pancakes, puppy dogs, local Mississippians, canoeing goodness and not so goodness and liter (and a little Kat and Dan drama too).

We took a school bus to "the river." I don't know what river but it was a Mississippi river (or creek like river). We were so excited and anxious to have our canoeing adventure. Full of smiles and happy thoughts.

The smiles and happy thoughts lasted the first three hours of paddling. The second two were tolerated. This is where the Kat and Dan drama comes in. I'm sure you can imagine. Nothing major just tiredness and a flipped canoe. Though Dan saved the day when he rescued me from a rushing current at the end of the trip. He is my hero.

I think this photo sums up the adventure. Melissa still looks beautiful as always. She is a local BFF (though I'm not sure she knows this.) She is the coolest lady and I so love hanging out with her. Oh, I have to add that she's from Washington, thus making her even cooler.

Roger and Melissa, cute as can be.

Kat and Dan, grumpy one and grumpy two.

Some local cows or longhorns?

Dan does clean up well. He is out the door to go to a poetry reading.
I'm in my jammies settled in for the night and some recovery.
Wish me luck.

Happy Happy Birthday Craig

Shout out to Baby Vaughn. Hamming it up.

We think you're the bee's knees.
