Movie Date
I've been looking foward to seeing a particular movie since last June. The trailer was on Miss Potter (which is a good film.) I especially liked Miss Potter because Daniel's Mommy really likes Beatrix Potter and the movie reminded me of her. Anyhow, Dan and I went to New Orleans last November for a relaxing weekend in the French Quarter. Here's some photos from that adventure.

This is the room we stayed in. There is an orb in the picture. Spooky French Quarter. It was the coolest room at Place D' arms. It had a huge bathtub. Some of you may know about my current bathtub situation, so this tub time was a treat. We also went on a tour of the Cemetery where the voodoo queen Marie Laveau is burried. My point in bringing up our New Orleans rondevu is that we were able to see the film, Two Days in Paris. I loved it. And glory be, this movie was one of the trailers.

If you loved Amelie and enjoy Mark Rydens paintings, you'll like this light hearted fairytale. It was a fun treat. I would love to take the Young Women in my ward to it. You leave the theater feeling a bit better about who you are. I also left the theater wanting Penelope's wardrobe. TOO CUTE.

We all love Amelie. Audrey Tautou is too adorable.

Dan and I saw an exhibit of Mark Rydens paintings at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle. I love the use of color and detail. They are really interesting to look at because you see things that are so unexpected. I think the most detail that is Mark Ryden like was in Penelopes room. I wish I could live in that room. All she needed was a pair of roller skates to roll around on.

The Pastry Garden and Shady Acres

Martha and I met at the Pastry Garden to have lunch today. We had a nice time chatting. Dan came and met up with me after he finished some school business. He presented a paper that he had written last semester. The paper explored why Emily Dickinson is so often included in children's poetry anthologies. Anyhow, he needed to come for lunch to celebrate. So, I spent some time at the Pastry Garden today. I love going there. Today was Navajo taco day.

I was driving home and I was thinking about my favorite places in Hattiesburg. My favorite places to eat are The Pastry Garden, Shady Acres and Sakura (sushi). I also like to get pad thai (to go) from Swannas every now and then. Anyhow, Shady Acres has tomatoe sandwiches that I like. They recently upped the prices and I think I can make them on my own for cheaper but I like to go there and remember how it felt when I was so new to being here. They used to have the coolest bathroom with funky signs in it. This one was my favorite.

I think it is so funny. I imagine whenever I think of the time I spent living in the South, I will think of this silly little sign.

I am so bored. I know that I should be studying for my CSET's or reorganizing our sweaters in our closet but I'm too grumpy to do it.

I keep telling Dan that I have a little dark cloud floating over my head tonite. I'm trying to perk myself up. So I'm going to think of the Flintstones song that I like to think of when I'm bored and grumpy.

Mommy told me something A little kid should know It's all about the devil And I've learned to hate him so She said he causes trouble When you let him in the room, He will never ever leave you If your heart is filled with gloom
So let the sun shine in Face it with a grin Smilers never lose And frowners never win So let the sun shine in Face it with a grin Open up your heart and let the sun shine in
When you are unhappy The devil wears a grin But oh, he starts to running When the light comes pouring in I know he'll be unhappy' Cause I'll never wear a frown Maybe if we keep on smiling He'll get tired of hanging 'round.
If I forget to say my prayers The devil jumps with glee But he feels so awful awful When he sees me on my knees So if you're full of trouble And you never seem to win Just open up your heart and let the sun shine in
So let the sun shine in Face it with a grin Smilers never lose And frowners never win So let the sun shine in Face it with a grin Open up your heart And let the sun shine in

Okay, I'm feeling better already.
Love YOU.

My girlfriend Sona invited me to her house in Dallas for a girls weekend. Pretty Katy flew out from LA and I wanted to hang out with them so badly. Girlies, I hope you had an amazing time and that the party went well. I am there with you in spirit. I love you.

The past months have been baby months. Many of my dear friends have been having little ones. So, this post goes out to them. Girlies, YOU ROCK. I am so thankful to have such wonderful examples of Motherhood in my life. I also have had so much fun putting baby gifts together. I wish I could be with you to help and hug you and my new little friends. I hope you all know that I'm here for you if you ever need anything and I love you. I am so proud of you all. You are amazing.

My Mommy used to take me to the Los Angeles Arboreteum in Arcadia, CA when I was growing up. I was always fascinated by the peacocks. They have all my favorite colors on them and they are so satin-like and beautiful. Well, today we saw some. I was so excited. They reminded me of my favorite painting at the Frye Art Museum in Seattlle, WA. If I could paint and decorate my house with colors taken from the peacock I would be happy.

Kat and Dan
Valentines Day Adventures.

We went to the Hattiesburg Zoo today. Admission was only 2 bucks. I wish I had gone sooner. The animals are a real treasure to Hattiesburg and I think they make it a better place. If you visit, I'll take you there for sure.

Happy Cupcake Day

Saturday, February 09, 2008

Daniel cut his thumb with his pocket knife. He got to use two Scooby Doo band aides. Poor, Daniel.

I thought I would take photos while on my walk this morning. I try to walk the one mile loop in this historical Hattiesburg neighborhood by our house everyday. Dan usually comes with me. There is a pit bull that lives 3/4 of the way into the loop who isn't gated in or leashed. This makes me and Dan unhappy. He barks, charges and does a great job guarding HIS yard. We thought about calling animal control but haven't. Instead, we turn around and walk back before we get to his house. Anyhow, this rollie pollie pinecone reminded me of the tree in front of my house at home. The creek is right behind our complex. A while back we saw a Great Blue Heron chilling out there. The third photo down has a pretty little bird in it. He was singing a happy little wake up song. I figured he was singing to me. The second photo down has a bottle tree in it. I love those. You can click on the photo to see it better. The top photo is a little house that I think is so small and quaint. I like the chimney and the hidden front door. I imagine living there. It has a little back house where Dan could have a office to write in. Well, hope you enjoyed seeing what I saw this morning. Love you.
